No longer able to control playback for other users?

Hey guys,

I remember in the past I'd be able to stop active streams of other users, but now I seem to only be able to do that for myself.  For what it's worth, I made sure I was using the administrator account.

Did you check the specific permission to "Allow Remote Control of Other Users"?

Hi,

Yep, I checked.  I removed the permission, saved, readded it, and still don't have control.

Are the others remote connections?

Yep, all except mine.

This seems to be quiet random here, too. I‘m seeing the playback control buttons for some users, for some others I don’t. These users all have the same settings/permissions and all use Kodi. Never was a problem for me personally as I don’t need/want to control their playback, but I‘m having that issue for years. Just fyi

Same here. I dont use the feature ever but have noticed since I started with emby 2 years ago that it is hit or miss.

I've noticed this a fair amount myself across random users and random clients.

Most of the time I can control the clients connected to my server via the dash, but every now and then a client will have no media controls, just an 'i' button if transcoding and the current playback progress actively counting up.

I believe this will all come down to whether or not a websocket connection between the dash and that client is active and that can be impacted by network configuration and conditions.

I expected the websocket to be the issue here. Would be nice if you could give us some guidance how to check (in log?) if a websocket connection is present or not and how to troubleshoot not working websocket connections. As far as I know, Kodi's real time sync relies on these connections, too. So if the websocket is not established, users have to restart their kodi device to make database changes sync on their devices.
