Problems with Collections Disappearing

I have a library on an external drive that I plan to shuck but for now I can't be bothered. From time to time the items from that library will disappear from the collections tab entirely. (the movies are still in their own library just not linked to the collection) is there any way to make the collections persist so I don't have to rebuild them any time I notice.

 

 I noticed after rebuilding the collections that they all show up duplicated bc the original collection will resurface after quite some time (more than 2 days)

there was a power outage in my neighborhood, so my computer went off. when i booted it back up my external hard drive was not detected, so i unplugged it and plugged it back in, which allowed it to be detected no problem. then bc it has a library on it, embyserver started without anything linked to that and had the name of the library but no content, so i hit scan media files, it picked up all the content as one would expect, except for those files are no longer linked to any collections. 

 

this has happened two or three times, so i've tried different things with each restart. 

 

what i've noticed is that no collections are rebuilt after a 'scan media files' but if i go and create one it will "magically" find the original, meaning i have to delete one. if i don't recreate the collection, the original will not be rebuilt, no matter how long i wait.

It happened again, and i've given up on dealing with it and just moved all my files from hard drive to hard drive so nothing that is in a collection sits on my external drive. i'll just have to be more motivated to shuck it i guess.

I just noticed all but two of my collections are gone, and those two only have 1 or 2 movies where they use to have 40+ in them.

 

My emby server 4.4.3 is on a synology NAS and all media is on same NAS.

 

I did try to retire the emby backup from 7 days ago so this must have happened before that.

 

Any thoughts as I had a lot of collections setup.
