AJValentine 0 Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Hey there, so i was looking for some advice. I have an emby server set up on a Synology NAS, it's not all that powerful. So when it comes to transcoding, it will buffer for a little, play a few seconds, then buffer again. I was hoping not to require converting my entire library to avoid this issue. Is there a product i can attach to the television (such as firestick, roku, apple tv. etc) that will play most/a;; formats via Direct play or Direct stream? If not, are there potentially options such as codecs so that the server won't have to do any of the heavy lifting? Apologies if this has been asked before. I'm pretty new when it comes to this whole thing. So i was hoping to get some simple answers. Thanks all! Kindest regards and stay safe!
Luke 42078 Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Hi, yes, what are you trying to play? If you'd like to maximize direct play, I would suggest the Nvidia Shield with our android TV app.
AJValentine 0 Posted May 27, 2020 Author Posted May 27, 2020 Hey there, thank you for getting back to me so quickly! So I’ve been using .mp4 files mostly, since they’re fairly universal. But converting everything has become tiresome, so I’ve decided to get a product that can direct play more useful formats, such as MKV x265. I have just gotten the Emby Theatre on the XBox One X, which worked somewhat. The x265 MKV files run, as long as they don’t use the OPUS audio codec. If you happen to know anything that could play those x265 HEVC files natively, that would be ideal. Sorry for the lengthy ramble, hope it makes sense. Thanks Luke, greatly appreciated!
