JasonNalley 37 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Hey guys, long story short, I had a motherboard go out on me so I upgraded Mobo and Processor, windows was being a bit unstable, and wouldn't repair (startup failed about 60% of the time), so I reinstalled windows. It did keep the Windows.old folder. I was wondering if after installing Emby, if there was a way I could just copy the relevant databases and such over to the new installation, and that be it, or if it's more involved than that? or if it simply can't be done... I am sure there's probably posts about this already on the forum, but to be fair, I have a 10 month old sitting in my lap right now and it's a bit difficult to search and read through a bunch of posts... @@cayars @@Happy2Play
Carlo 4561 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Try to install windows and once all updates are done copy and try to recreate your old Emby directory information. Then reinstall the same version of Emby Server using the same paths. That will usually do it.
JasonNalley 37 Posted May 23, 2020 Author Posted May 23, 2020 Try to install windows Already done, and it's definitely done updating try to recreate your old Emby directory information. Do you mean all paths? Or just the main Emby path and the AppData path? Then reinstall the same version of Emby Server using the same paths. This may be the hard part, I was on the Beta path for windows, and don't know which version number I had exactly... It's something I didn't generally pay attention to...
rbjtech 5285 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Did you do a Windows upgrade/reinstall - opting to keep user settings/apps, or did you opt to reinstall everything ? By default, emby sits in the User profile that installed it - so if you opted for a 'reinstall eveything' - I fear that is now gone. Backup ?

As long as it was a recent version and not an older version you'll be fine.

Edit: I actually told it to do a clean install, but it said if it detected any other windows installation it would happen. Windows 10 thinks ahead apparently... not a bad thing in this situation, but I could see it being a problem for others along the way. All paths that Emby used. I was just hoping to confirm I could do it and it wouldn't cause any problems. So if I just copy the Emby-Server folder from user/roaming/Emby-Server everything should be ok? (Provided I have all the Drive letters correct and sorted..) Edited May 23, 2020 by JasonNalley

(Provided I have all the Drive letters correct and sorted..) ok great - if you have the original install - then just copy the entire directory to a new one wherever you like and simply run it from there. Emby doesn't use registry entries or DLL's so it doesn't matter. The only exception to that is the firewall rule, which I *think* points to the executable - so you may need to change that if you are using the default rule. 1
Carlo 4561 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Generally yes unless you've changed any of the paths that an be adjusted like DVR, cache, etc 1
JasonNalley 37 Posted May 23, 2020 Author Posted May 23, 2020 (edited) Thanks both of you, I copied over the AppData/Emby-Server folder and it seems to be working...Edit: Is there a way to delete the extra server that was created when I installed Emby and ran the setup (did that before even posting here) Edited May 23, 2020 by JasonNalley 1
