mbc0 68 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Hi, Not sure if this is only LG devices but it is affecting 2 LG TV's in my house on my local server. When starting Emby sometimes once or twice a day I get a screen asking me to select server. If I try to connect to the server but it cannot connect. I have to sign in through Emby connect, enter the PIN and away I go again. This happens once or twice a day but sometimes goes a few days without happening and as I say there are two LG TV's in the house this happens on but never on Android devices. Any ideas? Thank you
Luke 42087 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 If I try to connect to the server but it cannot connect. Hi, what exactly happens?
mbc0 68 Posted May 21, 2020 Author Posted May 21, 2020 Hi, what exactly happens? Next time it happens I will send screenshots, basically I start Emby on the tv and get the spinning circle for 20-30 seconds then I am presented with a screen to choose server or sign in through emby connect. choosing the local server just results in the spinning circle and "server not found" error so I choose the option to sign in to emby connect get the pin which I then use via the web browser on my pc then as soon as I type the pin on my pc then the tv automatically connects to my server.
crusher11 1102 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Are you sure your server isn't shutting down and being booted back up by something you're doing when you enter the PIN?

Positive, My unraid server runs 24/7 and I and/or others can be using Emby on another device at the time one of the LG TV's tries to use it.
rbjtech 5285 Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 (edited) I'd imagine it's to do with the network name broadcasts on your network (aka master browser) - are you connecting via IP address or server name ? Try via IP on the LG's - if that holds up, then this is your problem and you can probably resolve by making your NAS the master browser. Edited May 22, 2020 by rbjtech

Hi, My unRAID server is the master browser and I connect via emby connect like I do on all my devices, I will try to connect via IP address next time it happens but I do have 20+ devices that do not have an issue so my gut tells me it is something else. Thank you
rbjtech 5285 Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 (edited) I don't use emby connect, but as it uses the internet to do it's local emby LAN lookup, it's possible the LG's 'WAN' is not waking quick enough for the name resolution. After turning on the LG TV, does it make a difference how long you wait before connecting - ie does it start working after say 30 seconds or not at all ? Edited May 22, 2020 by rbjtech

Hi, no, it makes no difference, basically if I get presented with the "Select your Server" screen, the only way around it is to use emby connect. I will connect using the local IP tonight and hope that sorts it! :-) 1
