Starting a movie in Emby Theatre fails half the time

Easiest way to describe the issue I'm having is that when I click play sometimes the movie starts up and sometimes I get a spinning loading circle.

 

When I get the spinning loading circle to fix I hit 'back' on my remote, click on 'play' again and the movie will then start.

 

This trick works every single time. What's going on here ?

Is it on every movie? or just ones using a certain audio codec? I was having a similar issue, and I think it might be caused by my passthrough settings, though I'm not 100% sure yet; I'm still testing things. Everything used to work just fine for me, this is a fairly recent issue.

It's not on every movie, it seems entirely random, about a 50% chance every time but I will try and dig deeper.

There seems to be no correlation between audio formats and it working or not working.
