rOis89 4 Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Hi all, i am runnung Emby 4.4.2.0 on my Synology DS1019+ (DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4). I organized my media files in folders including the movie itself and also local media informateion (like poster, banner, fanart, discart, ...). Additionaly I have stored local trailers with naming according to the convention "<movie>-trailer.mp4" When i am running the thumbnail image extraction task via emby, the thumbnails will be also stored in the movie folder as BIF-File. But sometimes the thumbnails will be created for the trailer file instead of the actual movie file, which doesn't make much sense. I think this is a bug? Is there any setting or option to exclude local trailers from the thumbnail image extraction process? This is how my content in the movie folder looks like after thumbnail extraction: This is how my chapters look like: This are the current settings for thumbnail extration in my libary: Thansk for help and kind regards!
Luke 42078 Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Hi, that's interesting, i've never seen this before. Are these still being created now, or were they created before on older server releases? @@Happy2Play are you able to reproduce?

Only time I have really seen something similar is with media that has bad timestamps, but a bif is usually still present. Do interval image failure write to "thumbnail-failures.txt"? The "quick-extract-imageseries" log for that item may help also. @@softworkz's tools may provide more information. Edited May 17, 2020 by Happy2Play
rOis89 4 Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Hi, that's interesting, i've never seen this before. Are these still being created now, or were they created before on older server releases? @@Happy2Play are you able to reproduce? This issue is still on the current release 4.4.2.0 I just started to switch from PLEX to EMBY the last week, so I didn't use an older EMBY version before.... Only time I have really seen something similar is with media that has bad timestamps, but a bif is usually still present. Do interval image failure write to "thumbnail-failures.txt"? The "quick-extract-imageseries" log for that item may help also. @@softworkz's tools may provide more information. Where can i find the thumbnail-failures.txt"? If I go to Manage Emby Server -> Advanced -> Logs i can't find them. Maybe the movie file itself is corrupt, because this behavioir is only some times. I figured out, that if everything is working a BIF-File will be created for the movie and trailer, see screenshot below. So my current workaround was to search fol all files matching name "*-trailer-320-10.bif" and delete them. Afterwards I performed Settings -> Libary -> Refresh Meta Data -> Search for missing metadata This way I removed the wrong images in the chapter section for movies missing the BIF files. Can you confirm, that the thumbnail extraction is running for all video files in a folder (movie and local trailers)? I would suggesst to exclude the local trailer files (e.g. filenames ending with "*-trailer" ) from the thumbnail extraction process. So you won't get each time the same picture in your chapter overview, if the BIF-File for the movie itself is missing or extraction is failing (like you can see in the screenshot of the chapters in my first post). Also you would get a slight runtime improvement, if you skip local trailer files in the thumbnail extraction process. Edited May 18, 2020 by rOis89
Luke 42078 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Ok we'll take a look at this. Thanks for reporting.
rOis89 4 Posted May 19, 2020 Author Posted May 19, 2020 (edited) Hi, thanks for checking! I just recognized that the BIF files are also created for the theme movie files. I am using the "Movie Theme Videos" Plugin from Radeon. Using this plugin will download theme video, which will be stored in a subfolder backdrops of your movie folder. Also for this theme file a BIF file will be created during the thumbnail image extraction process. I would also suggest to exclude them. Thanks a lot! Edited May 19, 2020 by rOis89
