Will it be able to choose the same file to be played with 720p / 1080p?

 

Or will become a repeat movie with two posters

Given the four files, with two names and two extensions, you will see one entry in the library, and you can pick any of the four to play from a drop-down on the information screen - but you will not be able to distinguish between the mp4 and mkv versions with the same name as the drop-down doesn't include the extension.

 

However, if you press the play button without going to the information screen, Emby will choose which to play on the basis of which will give the best quality with the client in use and bandwidth available.

I just want to keep every file because I don't want to just watch it.

I want to collect it too. I therefore want to keep it all.

I'm still incredibly curious as to the reason you have both an mp4 and mkv. To my understanding those are just containers that would hold the streams together in one file, so you would have an h264 video stream, aac audio stream and srt/ass sub steam for example in an mkv, the only difference would be mp4 does not support containing subtitle files, mkv does not support xvid, other odds and ends. If I'm wrong please tell me because my whole view of the world is in question lol.

 

I could understand using makemkv to rip a full blu ray and save as source, then re-encode h265 mp4 with loose subs, then converting a copy to 720p but that makes the 720p mkv a mystery.

 

And if you only want the mkv for collection purposes, you could rename to Avatar (2009) - Source.mkv or Avatar (2009) - 1080p/720p.mp4 for the others so you could Identify them easier.

 

Please don't think I'm being belligerent I'm just trying to understand your process. I'm also a collector when it comes to some of my media so I like to understand how others' collections work.
