Hi guys, I hope it's fine to post my question here as I couldn't find a way to contact Emby team directly.

I'm a Plex user just stumbled upon Emby yesterday. Never knew about Emby before. I tried it and I like it very much. I just need 1 confirmation before I proceed with Premiere.

Moving files and folders is a huge pain in Plex. So when I tried it with Emby, it seems much much easier. I need to confirm if what I do moving files and folders around is correct.

If I turn on "Save artwork into media folders":

- I can move files and folders around, rename them without worrying I'll lose information (metadata, poster, artwork etc) because Emby will read those info from the .nfo and .jpg files in each folder.

- Unlike Plex, Emby doesn't put all those info in a database.

Am I right?

Thanks!

I believe Emby will still put the metadata in the database, but instead of downloading it from metadata sources, it'll use the information from the nfo files to populate the database (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Emby excels at this type of thing moving files in the configuration you have set up.

If you designate a folder per move/show in your setup (drive layout) and allow Emby to write the NFO and image/meta data to the directory, you can move it around at will and it will be picked up nearly perfectly. To take this to an extreme:

You could completely remove Emby, copy all the movie/show files and directories to a new machine and reinstall Emby and it would see you have NFO and local meta data/images and rebuild your library/data based on past "matching" or custom changes you made. <<< this is a great feature that I hope no one ever needs but works fantastic if you need it!

Just the confirmation I need. Thank you!
