If we remembered at the series level, wouldn't that be easier? There is also an open feature request for that, and I think that comes up more often. That's the sort of solution that doesn't' require fiddling with settings first to get it the way you want it.

If you have library with mixed content then yes but if you seperate your content into specific libraries then a per library default audio language would be perfect.

For example if you have an anime library it would be easier to have an option to set the whole library default audio language to Japanese than it would be to individually set each series to Japanese one by one

Signed up just to add my vote for this.  I watch anime primarily in Japanese and have it all in it's own library, but no way to tell it to have subs on for the Anime Library and subs off for the TV library.  At least, not that I know of.

2024 and this feature still does not work. I love Emby's UI and stuff, but I don't know, it's becoming a chore to use. It takes forever to load on my Shield these days for some reason, it struggles to process subtitles without dropping frames, and seeking issues abound.  Stuff randomly deciding it needs to transcode for no real reason, while on Plex it just plays without transcoding.

 

Plex fucking sucks from a user experience perspective, but it just..works in regards to things like this.

+ 1 for default language per library at minimum for sure.

Having separate libraries with different languages is what I've always done. Anime is in Japanese, and all other movies I tend to watch are in English. Setting an anime library to Japanese audio with English subtitles, and a movies library to English audio would be absolutely beneficial.

I think this is the main thing that keeps me on Plex, sadly, since unfortunately the anime I have is dual audio.

+1 but I would personally prefer the setting to "bubble up" from a show / movie standpoint.

Some movies might be Korean while the library's default language could be English and the default language could be German.

It would be nice to be able to define this at the library level and for items like shows, movies, books, audio, etc.
