Hi,

I am a noob (literally installed the software yesterday). I am probably missing something, but...

How do you get multi-part files to play one after the other?

If you name them correctly

e.g. "xyz - pt1.ext", "xyz - pt2.ext", "xyz - pt3.ext"

you get them listed as parts.

I know that auto playback should be possible, because if you click "..." on the second part, you can "Play all from here" (part 2 plays, with part 3 playing automatically).

Basically, How do I get the "play" option, to behave like "play all" ?

or will I have to try to modify the software myself?

Thanks

I strongly recommend you use a tool like MKVToolnix to merge the files.  That said, here is a link to the movie naming wiki:  https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102-movie-naming

It addresses this.  Here's the relevant section:

Split video files (file stacking)

The following are default stacking extensions that can be added to file names. # can be 1 through 9 or A through D. Stacking is supported for video files (but only when each video is in its own folder as in the example below) as well as dvd and blu-ray folder structures.

  • part#
  • cd#
  • dvd#
  • pt#
  • disk#
  • disc#

You can also use:

  • moviename#.ext

Where # can be A through D.

Examples:

\Movies\Avatar (2009)\Avatar (2009)-cd1.mkv
\Movies\Avatar (2009)\Avatar (2009)-cd2.mkv

Hi.  Please let us know if that answers your question.

Err... no.

I already found that part of the wiki (which is very helpful) and is why I can get the files to display as "parts".

When you hit "play", it only plays part 1, and then stops.

On the other parts (e.g. part 2, 3, 4, etc), you can select "play" or "play all from here". These options are under the "..." menu for the individual parts.

"Play" just plays that part and then stops.

"Play all from here" plays that part and then the rest automatically.

I was asking, how do I get "play all from here" for part 1.

Part 1 is not shown by the other parts (e.g. part 2, 3, 4), and the "play all from here" is not displayed in the "..." more options.

I know the code in the server already exists to automatically play the parts one after the other, because I can do this with the other parts.

Just join the parts

Currently you have to play each part individually. We will get there and improve this, but for the best experience possible I would suggest joining the files.

I reopen the topic to find out if this function will be integrated in the next future, because I think it can be very useful.

I hope so.

Anyway, i downloaded emby yesterday and it's already my favorite😄

Hi.  Is there something about your situation that makes it impossible (or impractical) to just join the items into a single file?  That will produce the best results.

Unfortunately I cannot merge the files because they are .strm files, if they were of any other format I would have already done so

You cannot join them at the source?

No because I use telegram to store them and I have up to 2gb for file

How do you store movies at decent quality with only 2gb per file?

Because I split them, for this reason I would like to have a function that can play multiple parts of a video in a row😉

By having lower standards?  Many of mine are less than 2GB, and they're fine for me.  Doubtless others would disagree, but that doesn't need to affect me!
