This was talked about several months ago, others reported it also... After several versions this is still broken.

What can we do to help get this troubleshot and fixed? I must force a library scan or wait 30+ minutes.

Thx

There are many threads on this in the past year. A few (there are others) from last 6 months...

I tried, and am still running, this "fix" (aka, not a fix cuz its not the problem)... https://forum.syncthing.net/t/setting-inotify-limit-permanently-on-synology-diskstation/12221/4

Looks like Emby's Real-time monitoring doesnt work when Emby Server is on Windows and the File Repository on a remote SMB share. Interestingly, I rean Kodi for many years on the same exact hardware (same Windows 10 PC AND same Synology file repo) and Kodi's monitoring works perfectly. Since Kodi's monitoring works, why doesnt Emby? Kodi's code is OpenSource... can you please look to see how they are doing it and duplicate their method?

And what method does Kodi use?  Luke has already mentioned Emby requirements/limitations with iNotify.  Personally I don't see special development just for ones system over another though.

I'm not a developer, I dont know what Kodi uses... the point is, Kodi's real-time works fine.

Emby does not work on a COMMON setup for MANY of your users (and millions of people all over the world: Win10 + NAS).

A logical and smart method would be to use what works for ALL users... especially what millions of people have.

I dont think wanting it to work for all users, is "special"... oh yeah, Plex works too... for got to mention that.

Every software is developed differently and has different requirements.  Comparing is not really relevant in my option.  But that is just me.

You can not compare Emby to Plex or Kodi or VLC or Media Player or any other software.  Everyone has their own methods and limitations.

@@Luke please answer, I'd love to help anyway I can to get this working. If you need logs, etc.

... if you have developer expertise you should know your comment is incorrect / inaccurate for how development works. Yes, people have different styles and methods they use but beyond that

you're far off IMO, and my experience...

"Everyone has their own methods" -- there are only so many ways to do things, limited based on the IDE, OS, etc

"You cannot compare Emby to <any other>" -- really? Same type of software, with this feature (and most others) having the exact same goals.

I bet at work you don't say... "Sorry boss you're wrong to judge my work against Bob's even though we have the exact same job. Everyone has their own methods and limitations. I should still get a raise (and not fired) even though what I build doesn't work as it should; when Bobs works perfectly for every time, in all situations."

btw, I said I'm not a developer... I'm not. I work at the at an open source company and with some of the worlds best Developers, daily. I've ran small development teams too.

You may prefer not to (especially when it is to Emby's disadvantage), but the users and customers will for sure so you need a better excuse than that.

The main devs need to distance themselves from you on that statement. It is just ludicrous.

We compare cars..

We compare loaves of bread...

We compare TVs...

We compare the size of our dicks....(mines huge btw)

So we will always compare media servers!

To me so is comparing products, just because the other guy does it does not mean every product will.  All comparisons will have disappointments.  Nothing will be 100% the same or we would have nothing complain about.

I have this exact same setup and no issues with real time monitor for me. Added a new movie to my Synology nas today, emby had picked it up before it had even finished copying across
