nairnmonster 6 Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Hi there, I'm recent migrated to a new server. Everything went well using the Backup & Restore app (Thank you). But after the main scan was complete, I have noticed it re-downloaded posters for a few movies. Not a big deal, but I wanted to change them to what I prefer. So I done this the usual way, edit images, search, primary, click the download icon of the image I liked. In the past this would download in seconds then auto remove the previous poster and replace with the newly downloaded. What is happening now is I get the spinning circle, which runs for a few mins then just stops. So I thought I would delete the image using Emby. But delete doesn't seem to work either, I also deleted the physical file which does remove it from Emby but I am still unable to download a new image. The manual add image also fails. I have attached my logs. Thanks for any help as always. https://1drv.ms/u/s!Am1DxUVncNJciLxtKAvJzIa0bl6AzQ?e=BeYCRr @@cayars
Carlo 4561 Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 What platform/OS was Emby on? What OS is it on now? Have you checked directory permission?
nairnmonster 6 Posted May 3, 2020 Author Posted May 3, 2020 What platform/OS was Emby on? What OS is it on now? Have you checked directory permission? Hey, it was server 2016 to server 2016. Was just a rebuild and new hardware. So you think NTFS permissions could be issue?
Carlo 4561 Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Maybe Do you have the options set to store information in the directory of your movies/shows? If not, try that as a test for a movie or two. If so, is there currently a poster in the directory of the movie you are trying to update? If so, try and delete it, then do an update. If nothing there to begin with does it write anything when you get the spinning circle? Any related errors in your Emby Server log?
nairnmonster 6 Posted May 3, 2020 Author Posted May 3, 2020 Everything set to download to each folder/movie. So I just added a new movie and was able to edit the poster. So must be a permissions issue from the migration for past data. I just checked and everything is set as previous from what I can see. Going to have a play about and see what I'm missing.
Carlo 4561 Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 (edited) One thing you can do is look at permissions for something brand new and working and compare it to a movie/folder that isn't working. Chances are you'll see a difference. Check the owner of the folder as well as permissions. If you get stuck and need another set of eyes to take a look let us know. nairnmonster 6 Posted May 3, 2020 Author Posted May 3, 2020 Good shout, Thanks Carlo, will let you know. Cheers Steve 1
nairnmonster 6 Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 Ok, so changed all permissions to the standard, users, system, admin etc. This didn't allow changes. I used Mary Poppins as a test, I removed the folder containing both the movie, meta data and images. Done a library scan, then re-added. It populated with the old image and still would not allow me to change. So I again removed the whole movie folder, deleted all meta & imaged and added as a completely new movie. After scan it showed with a whole new poster but I was able to change this from within Emby. However... I have the below set but nothing is downloading into the folder as expected. What have I missed or done wrong? Thanks as always Steve
nairnmonster 6 Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 So... playing about more, if there is any images in the folder Emby will not make any changes or allow new files to be downloaded. I even manually changed a folder image and Emby would not allow it to be imported or pick it up during the scan. Only when I delete this, re-scan the folder it would then download new images and allow for changes to be made. But does not store the images in the movie folder. So that does make me think Emby is not getting permissions to the storage but I can't see how this is permission based now. I even for testing added "Everyone" with full control and still no change.
nairnmonster 6 Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 Ok, make a whole new directory on another network share to simulate the current one. But only permissions was "Everyone" set with full control. Added a single movie, it downloaded all meta and images and allows for image change. So, it's clearly a permissions issues on the main drive. I'm going to remove all rights from that drive and start completely from scratch. I will win this battle!
Solution nairnmonster 6 Posted May 4, 2020 Author Solution Posted May 4, 2020 (edited) So I couldn't understand why it was using the user permissions and not the administator rights. Found the below, so turns out on server 2016 it starts emby as a user and not administrator. Edited the startup so that runs as admin... bang and the dirt is gone! https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/37634-permission-issue-windows-10/ Thanks so much for you help, you defo put me on the right direction with permisisons. I wouldn't have found that without your help! Edited May 4, 2020 by nairnmonster 1
Carlo 4561 Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 Glad you got it figured out. Yes, as you found out it's all about giving permissions to the "correct" user!
nairnmonster 6 Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 Users had right permissions it was the app that was starting as the wrong user. Got there in the end haha
Carlo 4561 Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 Well that's what I meant by "user". The application user it runs under. 1
