Problem resuming HEVC files when transcoding

Hi all,

Emby seems to have trouble resuming HEVC files when the content is being transcoded.

When I'm trying to resume such a video in Firefox, Emby gets stuck on the spinning

circle indefinetly -> transcoding. Resuming the same video at the same position on my Shield TV

works without a problem -> direct play.

Logs attached to this post.

Best regards

Matthias

Hi, as a test, would you mind trying a Chromium based browser such as Chrome or Opera to compare? thanks.

I experienced the same problem when hardware transcoding x265. Last I tested this problem occured with multiple mkv files merged with MKVToolNix without errors.

Alright, decided to reproduce the setup (docker). Found out it doesn't happen with all x265 videos. On the videos it does it's inconsistent. On the video for American Beauty it resumed the video (to my surprise), but when I tried the exact same again later it didn't.... Though the 21 Jump Street resumed fine after doing the same a few times

Apocalypse Now:

Jump Street:

The World is Not Enough:

I hope this whole thing doesn't reveal personal info... :P

Update: android mobile app resumes videos without problems (with transcoding). When I force x265 encoding with the EmbyCon kodi addon it loads (loading circle, no video) and after a while gives me an error: "One or more items failed to play. Check the log for more information about this message". When direct playing with EmbyCon it resumes just fine.

As a test, if you disable hardware transcoding in server transcoding settings, does this have any impact?

I just did a quick test with a single file. For me, it didn't make a difference.

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure when I removed the audio from the mkv container, the video resumed without problems. When I remuxed it with the 21 jump street video I think the same problem occured (not 100% on this, I'll try this again within the next few days). This suggests the audio file must be at fault...

I have a bit of free time on my hands, so tried this (removing the audio track). Made no difference for me.

Just tested on the latest beta and the video does now resume (4.5.0.14-beta).

The problem does still occur on the stable release. Is there an ETA for a stable release update?

Not yet but hopefully soon. Thanks for the feedback.
