jglazer63 22 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 So the issue is that I have a family member suffering from dementia. He loves movies though. So I got him setup with an android TV and Emby. The only menu item is movies. He can't handle the navigation. Ideally, I'd love to have the TV just turn on with all the thumbnails of the movies he can watch instead of having the select the only button (movies) then when he selects a thumbnail, it starts to play the move. Is there any way to do this? I have to think there are others out there struggling with this. Love emby, and I know this is off the track somewhat but just curious for any advice. Thanks!
ebr 16169 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Hi. We've had the dream of a "kid's mode" for a long time but have never had the time to really flesh it out. This sounds like kind of what you would need here. Unfortunately, I cannot think of a way to accomplish this now. If it is possible for them to use the "play" button instead of the ok button on the remote, that will play the item straight away. I initially thought about you remapping a programmable remote ok button to "play" but then they wouldn't be able to click on anything so that probably wouldn't work.
jglazer63 22 Posted April 30, 2020 Author Posted April 30, 2020 I will pass on the idea. Not sure how well it will work. Just trying anything at this point Thanks again!
serpi 82 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Mabe you could try Kodi with Emby/EmbyCon plugin, best with Embuary skin, AFAIR in Kodi you could set which entry to display on startup (Movies in this case). Another possibility could be a DLNA player (maybe even builtin in the TV?) and activating the DLNA server in Emby, there you might get a very basic interface. Ciao, Alfred
jglazer63 22 Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 Think of how hard it would be to just get into either Kodi or DLNA. Kodi, for one, is not built into the TV so I'd have to make a pi or something to glue to the back of it. I'd rather stick with Emby/Plex since these are both apps the TV knows.
serpi 82 Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Didn't you write it's an android TV? Kodi is availabe for android.
ebr 16169 Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 I seriously doubt Kodi would be easier to use but the DLNA option could be a good one because those are usually pretty simple interfaces.
