Integrate booklets for Music

Recommended Posts

Would be great if Emby integrated bookets (PDF files, etc) for Music.  For example, CD's usually might contain a booklet with liner notes etc that come with the CD, just like albums might have back the days of vinyl.  I have most of these in PDF and the ONLY place I have ever seen it integrated into a music server type platform is Roon Labs.  Roon is great, but can be expensive.  Here is a link on what Roon does to see what I mean:  https://kb.roonlabs.com/Gallery

Hope this can be added to Emby!

Hi @@Luke

This is on my wish list (although not quite sure where) as well.

As FYI if you buy music from Amazon (mp3s or auto-rip cds) they sometimes will include the booklet (liner notes for those old school folks) as part of the download. I think iTunes does the same, but can't say for sure. I have attached an example of an amazon digital booklet.

There are higher things on "my list" but it sure is a cool nice to have :)

Thanks

I want this too. Roon does it.

Can you show a screenshot of what they do? Thanks.

Hi Luke, found this thread because I was hoping for a feature such as this myself; it looks like this is an example of how Roon does it, similar to booklet scans on discogs:

This would be a fantastic feature for Emby to add, would really heighten the experience!

It doesn't look like it's a literal booklet per se, but image by image of the booklet pdf; I'm not able to use Roon on my current setup so I'm not totally sure how they lay it out in the app

This isn't just a music concern, many boutique Blu-ray labels include booklets with their movie releases.

Five years in, bumping this request: Many users have PDF or txt 'liner notes' files in music album directories. Please implement ability to open those files in the Emby interface, the same way users can view cover and other image files from a track or album's right-click menu.

What about JPEG of the booklet pages?, should that be set as backdrop#.ext?, booklet#.ext?. What about the back of a DVD box scan?

It’s a good idea but at this time you’d have to rename the file to follow backdrop conventions.

Everything should be a backdrop?. This my archive structure before importing:

./Scan
./Scan/Booklet_1.jpg
./Scan/Booklet_2.jpg
./Scan/Booklet_3.jpg
./Scan/Booklet_4.jpg
./Scan/Booklet_5.jpg
./Scan/Booklet_6.jpg
./Scan/CDCase_F.jpg
./Scan/CDCase_R.jpg
./Scan/CaseInsert_F.jpg
./Scan/CaseInsert_R.jpg
./Scan/Folder.jpg
./Scan/SACD.jpg
./Scan/Thumb.jpg

So @Lukedon't be so coy - what are the backdrop naming conventions, since my search of these forums hasn't found them?

Somewhat the same across all content types.

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

Thanks - so it works to rename liner note images to fanart1.jpg, fanart2.jpg, but the underlying problem remains: there is no way to see any image other than fanart1.jpg, and even that is as a greyed image, blown up, behind everything else - unreadable. So can we refresh the long-ago request (my bad for forgetting, and not including it here) and beg Emby devs to include some way that liner notes can be comfortably viewed in-app?

Right so we would need to build a dedicated way of supplying this. Until then he was just providing the best available options of choosing the most appropriate image type.

Yes. Just making clear that using backdrops isn't really a stopgap - it's a nifty concept (smart out of the box thinking, @cyruspy !), but you can't actually read any liner notes image you load as a backdrop. So the feature request remains as necessary as before.
