Question on images for chapters

Recommended Posts

I know Emby grabs shots from files to create the thumbnails for each chapter in a movie.  Is there any way to edit the chapter thumbnails?  In my collection I have various old Republic and Columbia serials.  Those "chapters" actually have a lobbycard or poster associated with the corresponding chapter.  It would be awesome if we could edit those chapter thumbnails and use those.

Thoughts?  Thanks

Hi.  Not currently but it is an interesting idea.

Thanks.

I've figured out a way to edit the chapter images, it's a bit tedious but it works, you just have to figure out where Emby saves them when they are created. The images are stored in chapter folders within the /metadata/library folder of your server path (within this folder is a xx/random-character-sequence structure). Easiest way for something that is already in your library is to actually delete it and re-add it (assuming you have selected image extraction to occur immediately when you add new media). Then search the library folder for 'chapters' and sort by 'Date modified'. The most recent chapter folder will be for the media you just added and will contain the images. Then you can just edit them with your favorite editor (keep the resolution and file type the same). If you do this before you actually look at them in anapp then the change should reflect immediately.

Hope that helps! I've used this method a lot to customize my chapter images, it's a workable fix until the devs implement the MUCH requested feature to be able to store such images with the media itself.

Good tips. Thanks for the feedback.
