Forced Subtitles won't load as default even when set as such.

I have tried Default, Smart, and Only Forced in the Subtitles settings section.

Some movies adhere to these rules and others do not. I can't seem to find a pattern.  I load up Movie A, and on the screen before I hit play, I see that the Forced Subtitles is pre-selected. When I load up Movie B that does indeed have Forced Subtitles, before I hit play, it is set to off. I click on the section to select subtitles and see Forced Subtitles sitting right there. Why doesn't it auto select according to the rules like others do?

For a few of them I even loaded up the media in MKVToolNix so I could set the Forced as default in the file itself then I rescan to have it link to the new file. This hasn't changed anything.

I've changed the subtitle settings through the dashboard, restarted the server, and rescanned the media library countless times with all sorts of configurations. I KNOW the movies have forced subtitles and they are labeled properly in the media info. When I manually switch to them, they work perfect.  I just want them to be auto selected when applicable.

Not sure what to do here. Thanks.

Hi - When you used MVKToolnix, were you just changing the Default Element?  or Did you try changing the Forced Element as well? I have had issues before where MakeMKV didn't "define" the correct Default Subtitle track and had to go in and change not only to the correct Default Track but change the Forced Element to "Yes" and that solved my issue.

They were already marked as forced, I just switched the "default" element to Yes, as it was previously set to No.

We'd have to look at an example, but track selections are remembered on a per-user, per-video basis, so that could also be coming into play here.

I think what’s happening here is that the subtitle selection rules only apply to media that has never been played. If you’ve played that item before, it will remember the chosen subtitle for next time, just like Luke said above.

Hmm, this could be it, and in my testing of this, this does indeed happen, but my understanding of the subtitle rules is that you can have them load forced by default.

Yes, I tested this aspect and it does work, however, aren't the subtitle options supposed to let you have forced be ON by default if I select that setting?

Yes but that would only be if you never played that item previously with them switched off.

Is there a way to reset the subs/audio for something you've previously watched?

Select whatever audio/subs you want during or before playback and those will be remembered next time.

Alright, thanks for clearing everything up.

Right, but I mean is there a way to reset it to the defaults. A few times I've watched something and realised forced subtitles weren't flagged as such, made the edit in MkvToolNix, but then I still have to manually select them again and short of creating another account can't test to make sure they'll work for others.

No, I don't believe there is any way to "unremember" the selections but if those people haven't already played the item, the defaults should work.

That assumes I've muxed it correctly. Which is what I'd like to be able to check.

I also know I have a bunch of Breaking Bad episodes that currently have incorrect subtitle settings remembered, but I don't know which ones they are.
