Need Some Help (or an Explanation) Playing 4K HEVC Remux Files

I am using an nvidia shield pro as my emby client.  My emby server is running inside a docker on my unRaid server. 

 

I'm trying to play a 4K HEVC Remux video using the built-in player.  When I launch the video in emby, I get a spinning blue wheel for a few seconds and then it kicks me back to the previous screen (the screen where I can select to play the video).  There is a message at the bottom of the screen stating that the video could not be played due to too many errors occurring.  

 

I have to go into the settings of emby and enable "Use External Payer for Videos" AND "Pass Direct Path" in order to get the videos to play.  In this case, I am using VLC Player as my external player.  

 

Why doesn't the built-in player for emby play these videos correctly?

Are you allowing that user to Transcode?

 

Too many errors can pop up when the media cannot be direct played snd you have disabled transcoding.
