movies freezes totally during the transcoding

Hello to everyone,

I'm running the free version of Emby on my PC,that has the following specifications :

1) os = windows 10 x64

2) cpu = intel I9

3) gpu = nvidia RTX 2080ti

I have a problem that's happening more and more times. While I'm watching a movie, suddenly it starts to go slow and at the end it freezes totally. On the configuration panel I see that it's doing the (software) transcoding. On the options I have enabled the hardware acceleration. So,what ? During this operation I can't watch the movie anymore ? It's a real annoying behavior. Is there a fix to speed up this operation ? or what ? I think that I should not have this kind of problem, since I have a very powerful gpu (and cpu). let me know. thanks.

Hardware acceleration is a paid for feature

the cause of the problem is the missing of the hardware acceleration ?

With an i9 - you really should not need GPU hardware acceleration - so for the moment, I would turn it off to see if the issue still happens.  If it does, then you know it's not related to the CPU or GPU.

I'm using the free version of Emby. If the GPU acceleration is a paid feature, how can I disable it ? It should be already disabled.

What browser/device/client are you using to watch the movie?

It does not care which browser I use,I have the same problem with chrome and firefox. Anyway, maybe I found the reason. It can't transcode fastly the movies that have an high resolution, like 1080p. I would like to know if the paid version will enable the gpu acceleration and if this will help to transcode also those movies.

This is not making sense at all - hevc 1080p files should be a walk in the park for your i9 - 4K may give it something to do, but it should be more than capable.  Perhaps you have another bottleneck in your system - perhaps disk I/O ?

I have gtx 1060 and a RTX 2070 super in different devices with the transcoding on and I never have a problem. Is this happening with a 4k movie?

Hello. yesterday I've activated emby premiere. I tried the transcoding with the nvidia codecs hardware acceleration on a 1080p video file. It improved the speed, but anyway it's not perfect. Its better if I don't use these high resolution files, even with the hardware acceleration. I never see bottle necks with a 720p video file.

Hi there, welcome. Can we please look at an example?

what can I do to show you ? how can I prove it to you ? I've streamed a movie encoded at 1080p to my friend and it was jerky. should I make a video when it jumps ? Im not sure that record a video of another video is a good idea.

Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks.
