MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Emby server and all mentioned devices worked great until a few days ago. Remote client - Streams perfect using cell phone data. - When streaming over WiFi, 1 sec video, 2 sec buffering, 1 sec video, etc - The connection and WiFi are working fine as xbox, Netflix, Disney+, etc work great. Even simultaneously. - Worked great a few days ago. Lag occurs on Android app and windows 10 laptop using Chrome.
rbjtech 5284 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 (edited) Try reducing the playback bitrate on the Android App to 1 or 2 Mbps (as a test) - if it then plays ok, then it is probably trying to direct stream more bitrate than your wifi can currently deliver. An AP/Router reboot probably would be useful, also worth checking on airtime channel contention to see if anybody else is using your chosen channel. Edited April 18, 2020 by rbjtech
MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 Will have to do that later as the person involved 'gone' now. But the test we did gives good results. WiFi speedtest
Luke 42085 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Hi there, can we please look at an example? thanks.
MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 That would be no problem, but how would I do that? Create an account for you?
rbjtech 5284 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Will have to do that later as the person involved 'gone' now. But the test we did gives good results. WiFi speedtest Is that their speedtest or yours ? Remember your UPLOAD is the max speed they can get as DOWNLOAD - and if this is your speedtest, 9 Mb/sec is not a large amount. If the source media has a greater bitrate than 9 Mb/sec, then your server will need to transcode which may be where the issue is.
MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 That's their WiFi speed.BTW the file with lag is a 720p .m4v file converted with Handbrake
rbjtech 5284 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 ok - so how is your upload speed and how does that compare to the bitrate of the file. 720p is likely only to be about 5-10 Mbps max, so this may not be the issue at all.
ebr 16194 Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 My upload is 30mbit As advertised by your ISP or actually tested over a long period of time? The latency shown above is not great and will have a major impact on throughput ability as well.
rbjtech 5284 Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 My upload is 30mbit ok - did you try this suggestion ? "Try reducing the playback bitrate on the Android App to 1 or 2 Mbps (as a test) - if it then plays ok, then it is probably trying to direct stream more bitrate than your wifi can currently deliver." if this plays ok - then it's almost certainly a network throughput issue. Keep ramping up the bitrate until you hit an issue - this is then the true sustained throughput of your upload - it could be capped or throttled due to the current global situation ?
