Locking a movie title from the UI vs from Metadata manager

I am confused about locking data...lately I have been manually updating some artwork and noticed many titles have missing cast and crew so  am doing an "identify" to repopulate it (from the main ui for each movie) and then locking it. But it seems to not always stay locked and I am losing the cast and crew info and have to do an "identify" again to get it back. When I go to the metadata manager I can lock the directory and/or the movie itself what is the difference in locking the folder and locking the movie inside the folder? as long as I am asking...any ideas why my cast and crew info keeps disappearing? Also, is there a way to lock movies in bulk without having to select every one separately? (I have over 5k titles)

Only if you have a multiple folder library or sub-folder system.  In Metadata Manager you would lock the folder and every item in that folder will be locked.

What do you mean by your Cast and Crew disappear?  But I would guess you would have to look in the database at MediaItems table, type 23, images column.

@@Luke why on a new install cast and crew images only point to a online source (tvdb or tmdb) and not the metadata folder?

What do you mean by this?

Database MediaItems - type 23 - Images column all point to online sources.  Is it do the the library itself being database only?

If you still have internet metadata enabled then it's still going to supplement existing local metadata, and that includes cast images.

With further testing they hold a online url until you actually enter the person, then it changes to %metadata% path.  But this should have nothing to do with OP issue.

To get back to my original question, what is the difference between locking a movie title from the UI vs from Metadata manager?

None.

But in reference to "Identify" this feature is there to be used when a item is wrongly identified so a lock become irrelevant.  Only option I can see would be disabling or hiding the ability to use the "Identify" option if a item is locked.  By default "Identify" deletes all me metadata and images and re-downloads via the new identified item.

Just asking for a quick confirmation with regards to locking items.

In metadata manager on a folder level i have selected that the Studio should be locked.

Does this mean that if i do a metadata refresh for that folder it will refresh all metadata except for the Studio?

This is the behavior i'm hoping for.

You locked the studio itself? What exactly did you lock? Can you show a screenshot? Thanks.

I guess the question here would be in this sub-folder of the Library, will setting this sub-folders metadata carry over to all of its child items?

In a quick test I would say No, this sub-folders metadata does not carry to all of the child.

But "Lock this item to prevent future changes" at a sub-folder level does apply to all of the child items.

Individual field locks are not inherited, no.

The folder Action

which contains all my action movies.

When i click on that node i get the options page on the right.

So my question is, if i lock the studio at the Action node level, will the Studio be locked for all the movies in that node?

@Luke Can you confirm that what i did does or doesn't lock the studio for all the movies in the folder Action?

I had to change a bunch of studios to make sure they pop up in Kodi, but if i ever refresh my meta data i want to make sure they don't all change back

It will not. Locked fields are not inherited from parent folders.
