recent multiple emby issues

I'm running Debian strech with the latest emby built.

Lately, I must remove library.db from that is in

/var/lib/emby/data

before I can get emby to start, even after are 'clean' shut down of the machine.

systemctl status emby-server -l

As well, it now asks for password on the default account. I never set one up.

Also, I have two HDs in the machine, but it will only 'see' one of them.

As well, after the recent upgrade of the server, created new library section, like, TV Shows. These will never preview and will only show up under 'Folder' in the web interface.

I wonder what would be the cause of my issues, new they are, as emby has, until now, been a solid rock.

Many thanks.

Hi, is your system out of free space?

Hi, is your system out of free space?

thanks a lot, as always, kind and gentle with us. I did "dh" on the system.

Both disks with data (movies) are at 100 percent

/var is at 47 percent

/ is at 97 percent

All others are below 47 percent usage.

Did this help you resolve your issue?

Sorry no. But for now the server starts as I no no longer simply shut the machine, I shut the embyserver off first. But all the other issues remain; only 1 of two disks show up in library, even after deleting library.db and user.db. Also folders added, such as TV Shows will only show up under "Folders" in the web interface and TV with WD Live Plus. They dont preview with thumbnails or show up in Library. None of these problems existed before updating to the latest release. Might not be emby, but if it helps, these are my issues. Might be worth rolling emby into a standalone server, like an OS with minimal packages, like wrb browser, ssh server, a package to check for duplicate files, torrenting app, dvd ripper, etc. This way, trouble shooting is reduced and supporting mutiple os unecessary.

Are you still out of free space?

Are you still out of free space?

I dont understand: can you say where I need more space? Does the HD with data need space or just the system? Please clarify, if you can.

Can you check the drive that emby server is installed on?

Sure. Please say what I should check and perhaps, how. So I get what you need. Dont mind helping out. It is a great server. Thanks.

I have done some further checks on the drive emby is installed and found a lot of files in:"/var/lib/emby/metadata/library"

I deleted them all, and this created space on the /var directory. After this, emby started.

None of my questions on this thread have a response. And so I foolishly add a new one: is it possible that emby does not create this much data to the point that if there is no space on /var, the server wont start? Could this metadata be automatically deleted each day? I only use this machine for emby, which in my case means metadata growth makes the machine useless. Thanks, Luke. Looking forward to a response.

How big was the folder before you deleted it, do you know?

Sorry, I don't know. I was too frustrated to collect info, needed a fix. Any chance you could get to my other questions?

It depends on the size of your library, and no, this metadata is needed for display. But if you were to enable the per-library options to save images to media folders, then they'd instead be saved alongside your media files.

Thanks a lot. This is great help. But could someone please say, how to enable the per-library options so that images are saved to media folders, please. I've since had to delete /var/lib/emby/metadata/library a few times since this post. Perhaps it will be good that is a default setting, to have these images saved in the media folders. Thanks a lot. @cayars

From your web admin click the left Library menu.

Now click on the library you wish to change this for.

At the top move the slider  over to "show advanced settings".

Now scroll down to the section Metadata savers: and select the NFO option.

Enable the following two options right below the NFO option:

Save artwork into media folders

With those settings you'll now be able to store your graphics and NFO in the same directory as your media.

Has this helped?

Thanks @Alpha Testers. And to Luke as well.

Presently the server is serving films. Later tonight, I will be in position to confirm, at least, that nothing happened after making the changes. I say this because it takes a while for the regular folder to build up with these data. Alternatively, what can I expect to see in the media folders.

Thanks a lot.

You will need to do this for each library.

Turn on ADVANCED OPTIONS up top once you edit a library from the web admin.

Scroll down and check (enable) the NFO option.  Scroll down a bit more and select (enable) the following two options:

Save artwork into media folders

Now just repeat for each library.

Thanks a lot. I've made the changes. Two things, however.

I see no option for "NFO" option. And I looked at all the pull down menus. It does not exist.

I did however, saw and checked on:

Save artwork into media folders

Second, to navigate to where these changes can be made. I suggest, for others, first launch firefox, with server in URL, connect to your server.

1. Click on home

2 Off to your your right, you see the settings button, last from the Search button. Click on this spanner-looking buttom

3. Then on your left, you see Library. Click on this.

4. Click on any of your libraries

5. This opens up a new window, at the top right of that you see "Show advanced settings"

6. Click on the round button to turn that option On. It will go from gray to green.

7. Now make the changes as suggested.

Thanks a lot. We will see how things work going forward.

Attached is a picture showing where the NFO option is on a Movie Type Library.  Also make sure you have the "Nfo Metadata" plugin installed!

I'd suggest using Chrome instead of Firefox as it doesn't have the compatibility issues that Firefox has.

Just out of curiosity try Chrome and see if the NFO option is present.

I don't have Chrome installed on this machine. But I doubt that a Browser should 'decide' whether an option by emby gets displayed or not. Perhaps @Luke can confirm. Thanks for the screenshot, it helped m narrow it down and it's not there. I do have "Movie Image Fetchers" but do not have the section "Metadata Savers."

Make sure Nfo Metadata plugin is installed.

It's not that the browser "decides" what to show but often times HTML/CSS gets interpreted differently and firefox often does it's own thing.  I doubt that is the issue as I think you just don't have the NFO plugin installed.

You're right. I've never used emby with plugins installed. Where can I find these and how can they be installed. Does it have a similar system like Firefox for installing plugins? Thanks so much, I think we've found a good solution, once the NFO plugin is installed. Thanks so much.

On the server dashboard you'll see a menu entry on the left called plugins.  Click that.  On the right side up top you can switch between seeing what you have installed and what's available to install in the catalog.  I doubt you'll have any trouble with this but just in case check out this knowledge base article:
