marky9074 1 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Hi there, Making transition from Plex to Emby and last thing to get working properly is the Music. I tried a number of times to get it to scape my 40GB+ of music, which is already correctly tagged and has NFO files for artists etc. I thought it was the size of the library causing issues, but just created a new share and only copied the ABBA folder across, which contains nine albums, which have come up as five separate Album Artists when they are one and the same. I've also attached a tagscan image which proves that they are all correctly tagged media, specifically the Album Artist entry. Any help would be much appreciated.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 what other tags are present in the files?
marky9074 1 Posted April 17, 2020 Author Posted April 17, 2020 These are the entries for the first track of each album... Nothing obvious leaping out at me....
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 i would d/l Mp3Tag and open those albums use the alt+T option and it will show you all the tags in the files which might highlight some that are not showing in what ever program you are getting the screenshots from

PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 select all the files and do alt+t will bring up the extended tag dialog
marky9074 1 Posted April 17, 2020 Author Posted April 17, 2020 Apologies, should have read your post correctly... OK here it is...
marky9074 1 Posted April 17, 2020 Author Posted April 17, 2020 Incidentally on one of the albums it has come up with a tribute artist!!
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Ok - that confirms there are no additional tags which could have been confusing Emby Emby for music is tag(metadata) driven - otherwise it has to lookup by Name and as Musicbrainz has for some artists multiple records you can get mismatches like this ABBA has two plus a load of other similar named artists So one way to fix this is to add tags via MusicBrainz own program (free) called Picard - so your tags look like this if you do then this will reduce the duplicates etc to zero as emby reads the MBz ID's from the files - which is what i do before adding to emby and its been a long while since i had a duplicate i would remove all the abba albums from emby - update the tags via picard and then re add after a library scan to clear out old references Just do ABBA for now to see how you go - then you can do the rest of your music etc etc
Luke 42077 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Do the artists have musicbrainz id's assigned in Emby?
marky9074 1 Posted April 17, 2020 Author Posted April 17, 2020 (edited) Do the artists have musicbrainz id's assigned in Emby? You mean have they been assigned tags by Emby..? Yeah, but its a different ID for each separately listed album artist (when they all should be the same)..... I don't mind going through and re-tagging with musicbrainz tags, but should this really be necessary for properly tagged media.... Edited April 17, 2020 by marky9074
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Currently yes - lookup by name (without MBz IDs) will in some cases lead to miss identified AlbumArtists
marky9074 1 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 Hmmm, well that didn't work at all. Using the ABBA tracks as an example, I fixed them with MusicBrainz and still Emby has scraped some random MBID...
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 (edited) It does you just need to check a few things and make some mods 1. what songs/albums are listed under ABBA 2 to 4 - those are the ones with diff mb'z ids - and emby should list something for those duplicate AA 2. But if you select all the ABBA songs in Mp3Tag and open the extended tags dialog - what does it show for MBz - Albumartist ID and Artist ID Should look like this i.e Note how mine dont show <keep> - which means they have diff values - i.e. not the same for all songs - mine all all the same hence it shows the MBz ID If you have <keep> for either or both then you have some different ID's - which need updating to the correct ABBA ID 3. I tend to do Albums one at a time in Picard as its easier to determine what song is miss identified etc - rather than a load at once 3.1 And you did save the ABBA Albums in Picard to update the Tags? 4. If you fix the MBz ID's in the songs and do a library scan after - Emby should remove the duplicates - If not try removing the albums they are in - do a scan and re add Edited April 18, 2020 by PenkethBoy
marky9074 1 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 This is what I get in MP3Tag... From what I see the MusicBrainz Artist and Album Artist are one and the same ID. I did remove the library, re-add, then re-scanned. Yes, did each album one at a time, and saved them...
marky9074 1 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 These are the MB ID's from Emby for the other three: 69d9cb53-5b8f-41b0-ac84-49eabea535b2 dc06329d-574a-4360-914e-6945fc458b46 1d84f2cd-0e7b-4ab5-861a-5224231e5795

PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 does Emby show any songs/albums for ABBA2 to 4?
marky9074 1 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 (edited) Yeah the albums and songs are all OK, just the Album Artist (edit: and artist) is wrong. Looking at the MBID's: 69d9cb53-5b8f-41b0-ac84-49eabea535b2 A-Teens tribute artists for want of a better word dc06329d-574a-4360-914e-6945fc458b46 is as match on the album 'The Album' by artist 'Clueless' with completely different year..... 1d84f2cd-0e7b-4ab5-861a-5224231e5795 last one is a match on the album 'Waterloo' by artist 'Another kind of death' with completely different year..... PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 So all sorted now then - not clear from what you have posted
marky9074 1 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 So all sorted now then - not clear from what you have posted No, not at all... The album artist and artist is still pulling the wrong ID from MusicBrainz, and seemingly completely ignoring the newly tagged media...
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 have you got the mb plugin installed and enabled for your music library - and as first in the list?
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Yeah the albums and songs are all OK, just the Album Artist (edit: and artist) is wrong. What do the other ABBA duplicates show when you click on them?
marky9074 1 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 They come up blank, bar ABBA as the artist. If I click on the MB link it goes to the artists I listed above for each one. Will look at the plug in now.
marky9074 1 Posted April 18, 2020 Author Posted April 18, 2020 Yup, plug-in there and listed first... Shall I zip up those albums and send you a link to D/L and test to try and reproduce with a new library on yours?
