Portforwarding

I'm looking to buy a new modem router I have a Xfinity modem router now and have never been able to keep portforwarding working for very long.I was thinking about getting the netgear nighthawk 1900 does anyone know if this is a good one?

Do yourself a favor and get a Ubiquiti UniFi USG, Switch 8 and a a UAP ProAC. The cloud key is not mandatory as you can use your PC.

ubiquiti is expensive to do it right (all unifi equipment router--poe switch--AP's    but worth it even if you can only to chunks at a time....      But once done you can see the full picture of your network. know what every device is doing, how your network is performing..   without much "setup" or network knowledge...  for the most part......    knighthawk is a nice device though... had one before i switched..

Rather than throw hardware at the problem - why not figure out why your port forwarding does not 'stay active' ?

 

It's probably related to DDNS not updating itself when your ISP allocates you a new dynamic IP - so while I also run Ubiquiti kit, it's rather overkill to fix a DDNS issue imo

I had a static ip address so it wouldn't change would that make a difference?

UniFi might be overkill for this issue but I've had no issues whatsoever since running Ubiquity.

assuming it's a ddns problem, yes that would fix it.  However that'll cost you money.  I'd be more inclinced to fix the ddns issue, since it's free and likely a simple fix.

All this Unifi talk makes me want to switch...

 

But then I would want a rackmount unit... then it just gets more expensive.
