vertigo220 1 Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 I recently installed Emby to test it out again, despite the fact it *still* doesn't have list view, and I'm already regretting it. Despite setting it to store artwork in media folders and not to download images in advance, during the initial scan and every time thereafter that I've added any media, before I've even run the app on another device, it's filled up all my directories everywhere with jpegs that I now have to go through and remove. Is it even possible to actually disable this?
Luke 42083 Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 it's filled up all my directories everywhere with jpegs Hi, what directories, and what files are in there? Thanks.
vertigo220 1 Posted April 6, 2020 Author Posted April 6, 2020 All the directories I assigned when creating libraries in settings, and mkv's of my videos, as well as some avis/mp4s/etc. And now a .jpg for every...single...file, which makes everything a cluttered mess. If I can't figure out how to disable this behavior, which frankly shouldn't be enabled by default, I'm going to have to uninstall Emby, for good this time. It makes dealing with the files a major PITA.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 But you told Emby to do that. "setting it to store artwork in media folders" What behavior are you expecting?

Happy2Play 9783 Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 I would assume list view everywhere, not just certain views. To me that would look really bad.

Right, saving images to media folders is off by default. The only reason your'e getting this is because you enabled it. What were you expecting would happen and why is the result unexpected? Your feedback will help us improve the option descriptions. Thanks.
vertigo220 1 Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 I read that option as saving images in *separate* folders. It seemed to me to be suggesting that with it unchecked, the artwork would be placed in the folders added to the library, whereas the "media" folders were separate folders for the artwork/media, especially due to the wording "Saving artwork into media folders will put them in a place where they can be easily stored and edited" which suggests that artwork would still be saved if this were unchecked, only not in a (assumed separate) "place where they can be easily stored and edited." Now that I see it in the way it's apparently meant, I realize my mistake, but it does seem it should be clarified. Also, as mentioned, I would expect the other option to not download images in advance would have prevented this, since the wording of the option seems to imply that these images would only be created *after* I ran the client, which I still haven't. As for the list option, I assumed there still isn't one, since another thread I've posted to and have been following suggests that to be the case. I guess I'll have to check. As for now, I've disabled the artwork setting, so I'll go through and delete all the jpg's and see if they stay gone. Thanks!
Luke 42083 Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Ok we'll adjust the text of the option. Thanks for the feedback.
vertigo220 1 Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 So that setting was definitely the problem, as the images haven't reappeared. Unfortunately, after trying Emby out for a bit, there are just too many issues and missing features (including, btw, the list view, which definitely is not there), not to mention I don't like the layout, for me to want to continue using it, even if it were free, and there's no way I'd pay for it. I guess as much of a POS as Kodi is, it's still the best option, which is a shame, since I was really wanting to go with a server option for better management and transitioning between devices.
chacawaca 109 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 where you want a list view that is not there ?
ebr 16187 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Hi. I split out your last post into a new topic in the appropriate forum. I think you've made several incorrect assumptions in there but we'll try to address them in the other post. Thanks.
vertigo220 1 Posted April 30, 2020 Author Posted April 30, 2020 So many incorrect assumptions in this list What a helpful reply, makes me so glad I took (wasted) the time to bother putting it together. I guess we'll see if others are more helpful, but I'm starting to wonder if my initial instinct to just give up and move on was correct.
