pse 9 Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Hi, after updating the drivers of my Radeon HD 7900 (almost 7 years old now) to the latest radeon WHQL 20.2.2, hardware transacoding stopped working and caused the video card driver to crash as soon as ffmpeg starts transcoding. This problem is fixed in the latest optional driver version 20.4.1. I don't know if this is for my setup only or just for the rather old video card I own, but maybe it's of interest to someone else having a similar problem crashing the video card driver. Peter
Luke 42079 Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a problem. Thanks !
pse 9 Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 Hi, I guess there's nothing much to do for you here. I could even trigger it by running ffmpeg.exe myself, crashing the driver (not emby) reliably -- so its the AMD HW-encoding and not embys fault So not much sense in posting more info IMO, and I can't easily reproduce it now. The video card driver crashing looks like this on my system: Blank screen (all of Windows) for a second, then a duplicate "Radeon Software" Icon in the notification area. If you're still interested, I can post more info anyway tomorrow, but I'd need to downgrade the driver first. Just posted this for others possibly having the same problem, driver upgrade worked for me.
