This would be amazing for Monogatari's book order. Really hope it makes its way in eventually.

Would also love this feature for the book ordering

I would like to add to this Feature Request that along with TheTVDB episode orders, add too the episode group feature from TMDB available on their api https://blog.themoviedb.org/latest-api-updates-3d7ead1ecaf9

That way we could make the episode order more a user preference than a server setting.

I'm voting for this as well, e.g. Futurama has a different streaming order than TV order and renaming the episodes and finding out what goes where is not very fun.

@Lukeit's almost been a year since you said it was planned for future updates (I think it was Dec 2023 when you posted).  Do you have any up-to-date info that is more specific than "future"?  Would be nice if we had a window?

HI, yes, hopefully soon. Thanks.

I can get onboard with adding both TVDB and TMDB features. I just ran into a series that I hand to edit the metadata because 6 episodes were actually released where there should of been 3.

this is when i noticed it happening with futurama's new episodes being randomly set as season 9 don't know why it picked season 9 from 12 though weird. and a handfull of other shows doing it as well..

This show has been off on TVDB for years and had map/renaming seasons manually done in a config file in my MediaCenterMaster metadata provider.  But yes this is a issue in random show.  And can be two folder when it happens between seasons forcing you to try and correct the entire show.

Pretty sure Mythbusters had the same issue when changing from seasons to years for seasons.

But yes dev need to add the alternate orders per providers as more and more media has these issues and providers accommodating the alternate orders.  You just have to ensure all your media is within that specific order.

Just want to bring this back to attention and for now offer a work around for others until this is added. Again, this was for Futurama.

2 ways can work:

1 - Import the media into Jellyfin (free) with the NFO save option turned on. Let it process the metadata with the alternative season order from TVDB set. Once complete, copy it back over to Emby and use the NFO reader to import.

2 - A bit more technical, but worked. Access the json cache inside Jellyfin's cache data (programdata\cache\tvdb\<id>) and bring this over to the respective folder in Emby and overwrite. You will need to rename the json file to episodes-dvd.json and episodes-dvd-<lang>.json from their existing json names. This does work as emby thinks it has the files already cached. This is a bit more troublesome but you can get it to work, sort of.

I also sniffed the data using a mitm tool for the api calls and I think I can create a mitm script on an local http proxy (mitmproxy - an interactive HTTPS proxy for example) to intercept and send the http request to a different endpoint to again trick Emby to think it's receiving the DVD order bit it is actually getting the alternative order - but it doesn't seem worth it as this doesn't come up often for me.

To the Emby team - implementing this would be helpful avoiding having to use Jellyfin to fix Emby's display order!

Thank you!

Option 1 works quite well. A pity that you have to do it that way though.

Adding my vote to this! Would be great to have, especially since it seems Plex and Jellyfin already have it

Would appreciate if this was implemented, would rather not have to load jellyfin to set metadata.

It would be really great if this feature could be added

Even after years, unfortunately still no update, is anything planned? Thanks for the workaround with Jellyfin, that's what I'll have to do now.

Hi, it's on our to do list. Thanks.

@Luke You've been saying the same thing for two years now. It's getting tiresome to hear the same thing over and over again. The extension needs a thorough overhaul for all platforms.

The to do list is either hundreds of points long or they are only completing one or two items per year.

I definitely think they need to be more specific about their roadmap, even if they say they plan to implement in 2028, its better than us asking for these same features every couple of years

I'm not sure, it's kinda fun to check if Luke is reading things by asking over and over again over a decade (I've got a few FR that I've been asking and getting 'its on the list' for a LONG time).
