lifespeed 42 Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Really, you're going to bork a night of recorded TV because my internet has been out for less than 24 hours! Absolutely ridiculous, you should revisit this overly-aggressive licensing behavior. Having mostly reliable internet I never noticed this unfriendly policy before.
ebr 16212 Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Hi. Please explain exactly what happened and where. We cache license information for up to a week. Thanks.
Luke 42093 Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Hi, I think it's actually the guide data refresh not being resilient to handle this situation. We'll look at improving it. Apologies for the disruption.
lifespeed 42 Posted April 1, 2020 Author Posted April 1, 2020 Sorry for the slow response, I was away trying to get my internet going again so I can work from home. I don't think it was just the guide data, every Live TV screen complained about licensing. It appears Emby decided I wasn't licensed and refused to allow any Live TV functionality. The internet connection had been down for less than 24 hours. However, because of some intermittent behavior of my internet connection, and reports the internet was "back on", there were numerous reboots of my network, including the Emby server. I don't know if server reboots are part of the licensing scheme. So while failure to record TV isn't the end of the world, it is one of several functions Emby is supposed to perform. I understand the requirement, and indeed support, Emby developers being compensated for their work. But trapping paid users in a flawed licensing scheme is frustrating for users, and surely isn't the intent of the developers.
Luke 42093 Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Hi, I apologize for the disruption. If you can PM me a server log from this time period, I'll look at what improvements can be made. Thanks.
lifespeed 42 Posted April 1, 2020 Author Posted April 1, 2020 Thanks for looking into this. The server log is attached. The indication of a licensing problem was from Emby Theater, however. In fact, when I looked at the server dashboard it didn't indicate a licensing problem, the gold medallion was present. So maybe it would have recorded, even though the client was "unlicensed"? Logs sent by PM.
lifespeed 42 Posted April 1, 2020 Author Posted April 1, 2020 I guess I should also mention a little before 8PM Monday the 30th I tethered my mobile phone to the Emby server and Emby Theater PC (same machine) to provide a brief connection to the internet as I didn't want to be bothered with missing the recorded TV shows and trying to track them down later. So it did connect to the license server before 8PM recordings were scheduled to go off.
