Bert08 3 Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 (edited) Good evening, I always had trouble with subtitles right from the first installation. Sometimes they didn't show right away but only after a couple of minutes of playback. But now I can't see subs at all. The .srt file is there and if I try to play the video directly with VLC everything is showing correctly. But with Emby it's not working. I tested it with various videos and on all my platforms (Android, LG Smart TV, and browser web app). My Server is running on a Raspbian Raspberry Pi and the files are stored in a Synolgy NAS I already tried rebooting Emby Server and the server machine itself, but nothing changed. I'm attaching a log file hoping to find a solution. Log.txt Edited March 29, 2020 by Bert08
Bert08 3 Posted March 29, 2020 Author Posted March 29, 2020 I ran a test. I tried running the Emby server directly on the Synology NAS where I keep the video files, instead of going through the Raspberry. The subtitles work fine, even if the power of the NAS is way lower that the Pi4's.
Bert08 3 Posted March 29, 2020 Author Posted March 29, 2020 (edited) UPDATE2: I tried to interpret the log myself and saw some kind of problem accessing the srt files on the NAS. So I added to the media categories (Movies, TV Shows) in the Library the direct network IP in the "optional" path field. So now I see the files are being played directly from \\192.168... instead of smb. This looks to have solved the subtitles playback issue. Just a minor issue is happening now: despite my setting in the Library setup page (saving subs alongside video files) the subtitles are saved on the server machine drive (Raspberry) and a Zero Bytes version of it is created directly into the video folder, but of course it's empty. Hence for every movie I now have two subtitles entry but only one obviously is working, meaning the one on the server drive, because the one in the video folder is blank. I can live with it, but it's a strange behavior, so if possible I'd like to correct it. This is the error line I get from the Log 2020-03-29 19:40:35.462 Info SubtitleManager: Subtitle saving write access denied, falling back to saving subtitles to /var/lib/emby/metadata/library/2b/... As far as my abilieties go I think I gave embysvr user all the right permissions on my SYNOLOGY Edited March 29, 2020 by Bert08
Luke 42083 Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Hi there, please try Emby Server 4.4.1 as soon as it's available. Thanks.
Solution Bert08 3 Posted April 6, 2020 Author Solution Posted April 6, 2020 Turned out my problems were related to how the media was added to my library. I solved by mounting my shared folders using nfs as I explained in this topic: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/84523-folder-permissions-question/&do=findComment&comment=867491 1
