Genre name issue

I have a really weird problem. Let's say I have a genre name called "Hello! abc"

After the server reads it and imports to the genre section. I am unable to rename it to "Hello!abc"

However, I can rename it to "Hello!def".

I tried:

1) Remove the entire movie and add it again.

2) Remove the genre from the movie and add it again. ( only 1 movie has this genre so far )

3) Scan the library and update the meta from genre tab and movie profile.

4) Rename it to  "Hello! abc". It will auto replace " " to " "

All these situations lead back to "Hello! abc".

Even I add "Hello!abc" to another movie, the genre name is changed automatically and group up along with the "Hello! abc" genre.

How can I remove that internal cache? It looks like Emby considerate "Hello! abc" & "Hello!abc" as same string.

Thanks.

Hi, so the issue is you just want mulitple spaces?

Hi, so the issue is you just want mulitple spaces?

Nope. Long in short:

"Hello! abc" <- Server recorded

"Hello!abc" <- I want to update to this

Once it is created in the server, I have no way to update it, I cant delete it either.

The result is the same even I changed and refresh the genre in the nfo as "Hello!abc", and this is the only file with this genre on the server.

Did you click save after making the changes?

How exactly are you trying to change it? I don't quite follow. Thanks.

1) I removed the genre "Hello! abc" ( with a space ) from edit metadata. I assume the genre is deleted from the database since no movie has that genre anymore

2) Save and reopen the metadata. Genre is blank.

3) I add the genre "Hello!abc" ( without a space ) and save it.

4) When I reopen it, the genre is saved as "Hello! abc" ( with a space ) again.

Apparently I haven't totally destroy it in step 1 and "Hello! abc" is still somewhere in the db. I tried to update the metadata from the genre tab and it doesn't do anything tho.

Another mystery is Emby will auto replace " " to " ". So "Hello! abc", will end up save as "Hello! abc" but " Hello!aabc" can be saved correctly  :o

To me it just looks like a UI display issue (also edit Metadata on the item), as all the space are saved properly and are removed from metadata and Database when edited.

Alrite l did some more tests.

Let's try this string: Hello! こんにちは

I saved it, and my nfo displays as Hello! こんにちは. Then I goto genre tab and let the db crawls it.

I head back to metadata, remove the old genre, type the new one without a space, save it. The nfo source becomes <genre>Hello!こんにちは </genre>.

I reopen and close the nfo file several times to confirm the result.

The nfo has no space, but the space is there when I open the edit metadata. ( I did refresh the metadata )

This time, I put a space after は and save it. My nfo displays as <genre>Hello!こんにちは </genre>.

When I refresh metadata and head back to the edit metadata, it becomes <genre>Hello! こんにちは </genre> again.

Also, 1 more thing. The thumbnail of the genre will never be refreshed. The 2x2 images display at the genre folder is the one which I removed long time ago.

No matter how I refresh and scan, it always displays my old images. This folder isnt the genre folder which I addressed above. But I am not sure if it is related since it looks like it has update issue.

Why do you need multiple spaces next to each other?

Why do you need multiple spaces next to each other?

There are only 1 space in the string.

And.. I am not putting a space after exclamation mark on purpose, it was a mistype. The thing is I cant remove it now after I found the mistake lol

No matter how I change in nfo and refresh metadata, it always back to the first version which I input.

Have you tried just removing the genre and adding a new one?

hmm, the only thing I can make sure is removing that genre from all movies. I am not sure if there are any other way to remove it from the DB.

Apparently I cant remove it completely tho since it is auto matched to the old genre lol

Can we check if it exists in the DB but 0 child under it?

Correct yes. Once it has been removed from all media, the library scan will clear it out of the database.

Then it should be cleared from the DB. So what is the possible reasons why the db will auto changed my value even the nfo isn't write like that? hmmm

I removed and add it again. My nfo doesnt have that space, and the space is there after I press edit metadata.

To be honest I think I don't fully understand the issue right now so it's hard for me to answer. Are you sure this isn't just about extra spaces not displaying?

Can you recreate an example without using the spaces?

It is finally fixed after I remove the entire thing, rename the root folder and let it crawls everything again.

Remove and add the movie will not work tho.

Ok thanks for the info. We'll try to reproduce and look into it.
