Randomly Buffering Video

I'm having a really weird and random issues that's popped up in the last week or so and I'm not sure why. When watching anything (movie, tv show, etc) it's fine most of the time, but once in a while it will act like it can't stream fast enough and pause and buffer. I've never had this happen until now and nothing has really changed on my end.

Server:

8c/16t Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and GTX 1050 for encode/decode

Client:

nVidia Shield 2017 (I have also experienced this issue twice on Chrome on my desktop but I haven't been able to duplicate it since)

I am direct streaming and not transcoding (I did see there was a bug last year but I never had that bug and it seems like the issue was fixed). Bitrate of the videos I've been watching vary between 5 or 6 megabit to 15 megabit, depending.

Internet connection is gigabit fiber offsite and gigable cable at my home. Should be MORE than able to handle it.

Things I've tried:

I thought it might be networking related or internet related so I set up various pings to my local firewall, to my home, to other local servers, to my shield from the Emby server over my ipsec tunnel. Everything was completely normal when the stuttering/buffering occured. Ping times were excellent and there was only one ping that was over 100ms and it wasn't when the issue was happening. Everything else was less than 30ms and most were in the teens or single digits.

The logs, however, show something interesting where it shows a http server response 200 (which I know isn't a problem) but the response time is in the thousands of milliseconds. That does correspond to the issues as they occur.

And what's weird is its not consistent. For example, right now I am streaming just fine with no problems, same files that had problems earlier. Go figure.

Logs attached. Any help is appreciate. Thanks. :)

Hi there, can you try lowering the in app quality setting? Buffering is almost always a sign that the bitrate is too high. Thanks.

Hey Luke! I can, the next time it happens just to eliminate that as a problem, however, I really really REALLY don't think that's the issue. I have had this set up for years and had zero issues and the files I was watching are not very high, bitrate wise. Also, this just started happening, and as I said, there are things in the logs indicating a problem somewhere given the high HTTP 200 response times (over thousands of MS). But for sure happy to try that the next time.
