Emby with a NAS or a small form factor server

I am looking to build a new portable Emby server. I need at least 4 12 TB drives  in raid. I was thinking of using something like Nas Storage Iomega Storcenter Ix4-200d, and connect it via the router to my home work computer. A little cautious of this for security reasons.

If I use Nvidea Shields, does a NAS device stream well to a Shield?

Also.. I f thought about using unraid and build a small form factor to make it portable. Any suggestions on parts for this? does it work well?  Can you use the NAS Iomega to build an unraid?

Hi, yes that would work. You could install Emby Server on the Shield and use that as your server. Or you could get a NAS that can run Emby Server such as a Synology, QNAP, Asustor, etc and make that your server.

Thank you, I am interested in the NAS option...  you mentioned "Synology, QNAP, Asustor"  Is there a how to or something on how to install Emby on those? What is needed to get it to work? Which one should I get?

Also, I use "other" software to get media, can those be installed too?

How does it work on a NAS? Is it fast? or lagging? or?

Excited about my next build!

Server works well on Synology NAS.  Where you may run into an issue is if you need to transcoding 4K to 4K which seems to really be slow on all models.  Transcoding 4K to 1080p and below not really an issue.

If by "other" software to get media you mean torrent or usenet yes they can both run on Synology and you can use a VPN too
