Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) No issue with update. Only thing I didn't like is Setting Theme defaulted to Light, but a easy fix. Blog/Announcement needs to be provided before or same time as release. Edited March 21, 2020 by Happy2Play 1
pünktchen 1409 Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 Only thing I didn't like is Setting Theme defaulted to Light, but a easy fix.The setting theme was always a light one by default in previous stable releases, so this is the right decision.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 22, 2020 Author Posted March 22, 2020 The setting theme was always a light one by default in previous stable releases, so this is the right decision. Technically the previous "Server dashboard theme:" is now "Settings Theme" was user selected and gets reset to "Light" instead of maintaining previously selected theme. 2
Luke 42077 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I think i would like to get to the point where both defaults are the same. There's just something about the server settings with the dark theme on a desktop PC that has always given me the feeling that it's less user friendly. It's hard to quantify. 1

It's hard to quantify.I actually agree with this and yeah can't really explain why. Maybe it's just the years of conditioning from most admin GUIs that have light UIs. Hoping for the blog post details soon.

Just click on the '4.4.0.40' in the dashboard to see what the changes are vs the previous release... 1
zer0ish 12 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 As other have mentioned, users settings defaults to light theme for some reason.I also agree that it should just be one settings option for both. This update broke allot of the CSS I had Guess I'll get started on figuring out what changed and fix it. One great thing I see now, that I will continue to test is the transcoding.I was getting terrible transcoding, instead of 5mbps or what ever I set it to I was getting kbps which made the quality super bad. This wasn't on my hardware or clients because everything in my house has been clean installed within the last 2 months. Glad this has been fixed. Great work.

This is to be expected with every release. Not to bad as Stable is only released every couple months. It is more difficult on beta cycle every couple days.

It is more difficult on beta cycle every couple days. You think so? I find it easier as I only have to make changes incrementally as opposed to doing them all at once. Definitely feels like a lot less work to me Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Xorp 48 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Wow, the new version flies for 4K HEVC transcoding now! It went from 30fps to 100fps on my Nvidia Quadro P400. 2 streams goes at 80 fps and 60fps! Much faster startup and seeking if the source is 4K HEVC UHD Blu-ray remux. I believe HDR to SDR tonemapping support was supposed to come with version 4.4 but it didn't make it into this build? With the new speed improvements and HDR tonemapping eventually, I'll just keep a single 4K HEVC HDR version and have Emby tonemap and transcode it to 1080p SDR on the fly, instead of keeping both 4K HDR and 1080p SDR versions.

There's just something about the server settings with the dark theme on a desktop PC that has always given me the feeling that it's less user friendly. It's hard to quantify. I think most people are much more comfortable reading lots of text (like you encounter in the settings) with black text on a light background (like typeface on paper). By contrast, lots of colored images pop better against a dark background. So, I feel the two defaults we have now are correct for their context. 3
Guest Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 The embyserver does not update from 4.3.1.0 to 4.4.0.40. I repeated the update more than ten times, restarted the embyserver more than ten times and shut down the embyserver several times and the message continues that the server has been updated and needs to be restarted and when I do, it shows to be updated but continues the previous version.
Luke 42077 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Hi, try shutting down the server and installing the update from the website. 1
ray-finkle 10 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 After updating last night and trying to add a user today, the server now crashes and is unable to stay up. Docker logs show a stack overflow error. This seemed to be after attempting upload a .jfif image to the profile. I'll dig further and start a thread.

It was a nasty one. @@Happy2Play might recall.
ray-finkle 10 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 @@Luke recall if it's the jfif file format? Maybe some validation needs to be added to that upload. At least a note to specify which file formats.

milonedp 0 Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 I don't see this version in the DSM Package Center for Synology, this is the only Package Source that I have loaded https://synology.emby.media/. My Dashboard says the newer version is available and to go to DSM, typically it's available in the package center the day after I first see it but not this time. Is there a way to force the update, or some other way to solve this?

LongMan 112 Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 Thanks for supporting the new 10 digit imdb ID numbers. However I cannot correct the previous ones using the metadata manager. Is the metadata Manager not populating for anyone else? When I enter Metadata Manager the my libraries are not populated.
