Use "Extended Version" season on TVDB

Hi,

 

I have the extended versions of "Long Way Round" and "Long Way Down" - here are the link for those series on TVDB:

If you look under the Season section there is: "Aired Order", "DVD Order", "Extended Version"

 

My problem is that Emby seems to pull the episode information from the "Aired Order", thus getting the wrong details and missing several episodes. The series folders are named as follows:

 

Long Way Round (2004)

Long Way Down (2007)

 

Can Emby use the "Extended Version"? And how should I name the series so that Emby will use the "Extended Version" season listed on TVDB?

I believe Emby would have to add this in Edit Metadata to allow the Extended display order to be used.  But a quick look at the metadata currently received by Emby does not appear to be returned the extended order.  I don't see this info via their api either.  So it may not be available until they release api v4. 

 

But just a guess on my part.

If a change is required to support this then perhaps it could pick the season list that matches the number of episodes in the folder. It could have manually override in the Edit Metadata.

 

On a side note is there an issue with matching series on TVDB? I have a few series with a single word title that are getting badly matched even though there is a perfect match on the site. For example: House (2004)

We currently have no way to get the info from TVDB as they don't provide it via their current api.  So if you want to provided your own metadata and order you can apply whatever metadata and lock the series.

 

As for matching series you would need to provide a server log but testing your example returned "The Big House (2004)" @@Luke

Thanks for the Metadata suggestion, I will give it a go.

 

As to matching series, that is what I am getting. I didn't realise the year was used in the query in that way, I thought it was only used if there were more than one exact match returned. I will take a look at the server log and change the folder name so that it works.

I cant believe I found this ticket which is an EXACT match for the EXACT DVD set i am having problems with. Amazing.

 

Does Emby support episode specific "URL only" nfos

 

i.e. for a tvshow I can have tvshow.nfo with just the TVDB show link in it.... is there an episode equivalent for a link like this "https://thetvdb.com/series/long-way-round/episodes/7517910"

Yes we do support url only nfo files.

FYI TVDB's current api does not allow a way to get alternate versions like this.  They say there will be a way in their v4 update they are currently working on.

OK that makes sense as I cannot get URL only episode nfo to work

 

e.g.

 

Long.Way.Round.Special.Edition.S01E09.DVDRiP.mkv

Long.Way.Round.Special.Edition.S01E09.DVDRiP.nfo

 

with the nfo containing only `https://thetvdb.com/series/long-way-round/episodes/312508`

Currently you should be able to apply the TVDB Externalid to the episode, but will probably have to remove IMDB id as I do not see them providing this same alternate versioning.

 

I see this being a issue when you have multiple providers enabled as there will be a mismatch across providers as we already see sometimes.

 

Only way around this potential issue will be the ability to applying provider per Show/Series.

I think its prob for the best to revisit this post v4 API and we can take it from there. Adding to my long term link list and will come back some time in the future.

Ok great, this is the first time i have encountered this, not sure if there are many requests for this???

But with TVDB becoming Subscription Required to use the v4 api, I this becoming a issue.  With current info our current plugin should die March 2021.

I would guess a plugin update will happen to allow users to enter their pin from TVDB Subscription as I do not see any software developers absorbing the cost, not even Plex.

Oh I didn't know that was happening...

I don't have an issue paying for a service like this. Hopefully the cost is reasonable. 

I can imagine the cost for someone like Plex or Emby would be huge.

For the moment I will do a manual edit as suggested and then lock it.
