Aussiedroid 56 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Hi All, Looks like Emby TV App has updated on my end and now it requires a confirmation to exit. Is there any way that this can be disabled or removed please? It's rather redundant feature as it takes more time to press the back then move your thumb to ok/confirm, than it would to simply open the app again if you accidentally closed it. If I am not mistaken, the app is still running in the background anyways regardless of the confirmation. Thank you, AD 3
Luke 42077 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Hi there, have you explored the options in the app?
Aussiedroid 56 Posted March 15, 2020 Author Posted March 15, 2020 Yes, but I do not see anything to change the behaviour
Spaceboy 2573 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 There’s no option to disable it. The exit prompt is consistent with similar android apps. Second you still have the home button to exit without confirmation, as you always have 3
CBers 7450 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Hi there, have you explored the options in the app? There needs to be an option to disable it. 3
ebr 16169 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Hi. This is also consistent with our other TV apps. It is too easy to accidentally back all the way out of the program which (depending on your exact setup) can uncur a cost of re-starting and logging back in. 4
FrostByte 5392 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 I think that's why the option was requested. On my Shield the app seems to always be in memory so the Exit prompt costs more in time wasted than just opening it back up which was instant. With the Exit prompt I have to scroll over and then click cancel. Without it I just reopen it instantly. That's 2 clicks with it vs 1 w/o it. 1

Pressing back dismisses it, the same as what got you there in the first place 2
FrostByte 5392 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 why do you have to move to cancel? Pressing back dismisses it, the same as what got you there in the first place Hmm...well that's not intuitive at all. But thanks, didn't realize that 1
Spaceboy 2573 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Hmm...well that's not intuitive at all. But thanks, didn't realize that ah ok, now our earlier discussion of the speed of one v the other makes more sense! I just got used to this function with other ATV apps 1
ebr 16169 Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 Hmm...well that's not intuitive at all. But thanks, didn't realize that How is that not intuitive? Back dismisses any dialog in any situation.
FrostByte 5392 Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 (edited) How is that not intuitive? Back dismisses any dialog in any situation. Maybe that's how it works with all Android apps, don't know. As this is my first one and there is nothing about that box that would tell me as a new user that by clicking back it would disappear. All I see is Cancel and Exit. Intuition is the ability to acquire knowledge without recourse to conscious reasoning. Like I said, it's not intuitive at all Edited March 16, 2020 by FrostByte 1
ebr 16169 Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 That is how absolutely everything in a TV interface I've seen works (including WMC back in the day). So, once you become accustomed to that it should then be intuitive . 2

CBers 7450 Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 It's intuitive to me now If someone had to tell you, it's not intuitive 2
ebr 16169 Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 If someone had to tell you, it's not intuitive English will never be intuitive to someone who speaks French. That is basically what this was. It is impossible for every person on the planet to "intuit" the exact same thing the exact same way. So, we use common behaviors whenever possible so that the behavior is familiar to the most people.
maegibbons 1287 Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Like "Up Up" is blindingly intuitive to me for skipping forward to the next part of the show :-) If only it could be intuitive to the rest if you!! Back in my box. Krs Mark Sent from my SM-N976B using Tapatalk 1

PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Good God thats a shame - you asked so nicely as well - maybe its not intuitive enough for non english speakers => so cant be implemented 2
Tester 45 Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 (edited) I personally strongly dislike the app exit confirmation on any app so I am all for removing it and do not really agree with the reasons against it. So how about hitting the exit button twice ? I know of one app that has such a function and it works great. Edited September 16, 2021 by Tester

I just tried and unfortunately have to agree. Ok, so how about giving us the option to disable it or was that already ruled out ?
GrimReaper 4739 Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 This whole thread has been surreal - are we really debating an option for a SINGLE click? Once you click back and the dialog opens, it's literally ONE click difference as opposed to exiting immediately: either press OK to confirm (as the focus lands on Exit) or Back to cancel that dislog? Do we really want resorces and time devoted to developing THAT option? 1

I understand where you're coming from and I believe I was one of the people to originally ask for this Exit Confirmation, but there really should have been an option to disable it when it was first implemented, but it was deemed unnecessary by Eric. TBH, I have now become used to it so much, that I don't even think about it. The long-press on the back button from wherever you are in the UI, to take you back to the home screen of the app, is also a very useful function, for those that aren't aware.
