Sketchy 7 Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 I can connect to the server fine locally using localhost:8096 or 192.168.x.x:8096 and I can also connect to the server just fine remotely if I manually go to the remote IP address. If however, I go to app.emby.media (both with Wi-Fi on OR off) and select my server to connect to, all I get is Connection Failure, We're unable to connect to the selected server right now, etc. Port 8096 is forwarded and can be seen just fine on CanYouSeeMe.org If on app.emby.media I re-select Sign In With Emby Connect and put in my Username and PW that works fine and my server is listed but I still cant connect to it that way. As an aside, I also noticed that if I rename my server the name shown for my server on the server select screen is still listed as my old server name.
Luke 42081 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Hi there, does your server dashboard display the correct local and remote addresses?

Sketchy 7 Posted March 16, 2020 Author Posted March 16, 2020 (edited) Hi there, does your server dashboard display the correct local and remote addresses? Yes. I can connect locally just fine, and if i use the remote IP manually with my phone over LTE it connects to the server just fine as well. If I go to app.emby.media with my phone though and try to add my server using the same IP i just used to connect with manually, it gives me the connection failure message. Also, I deleted my server from the emby connect page at app.emby.media and added myself back to emby connect via the Emby dashboard and reconfirmed the emby account via the email and my server shows up again on the app.emby.media page but still can't be connected in that way. Also, quick question. If (on the desktop pc the server is running on) I go to https://app.emby.media/#!/startup/manualserver.html and I use my LOCAL IP of 192.168.x.x, should that work? Cause that also does not work. Edited March 16, 2020 by Sketchy
Luke 42081 Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 No that will not work. You need to use the http version of the online web app to connect to http addresses, so that means http://app.emby.media What kind of SSL certificate are you using?

I'm not using (nor trying to use) SSL. On my desktop if I click your link via Firefox or Chrome they are both forcing HTTPS and I can't seem to (or am just not sure how to) override that. On my phone with Firefox I can change it to http and then connect fine.
Solution Sketchy 7 Posted March 16, 2020 Author Solution Posted March 16, 2020 Ugh, I use a handful of privacy related addons on my browsers (Disconnect, Privacy Badger, HTTPS Everywhere, uBlockOrigin) and the culprit ended up being that DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials was forcing HTTPS... Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. 1
