Lonald 10 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Hi, I've been using MediaBrowser for the past couple of years. I am using a Synology NAS device for movie storage and in the past month I've been getting the UNC error message when I try to play stored DVDs. The tutorial on UNC didn't apply as the sharing method describes works on directly attached storage devices, not on NAS drives. I am using the NAS as "mapped" drives and when the error occurred I switched to direct network naming, but without change in the message. I last tried this in the past week. Some odd observations: 1. This does not affect Blu-Ray disc playback. These are stored in a different folder on the NAS and play through TMT6. 2. Switching DVD playback to TMT6 launches TMT6, but the file won't play. 3. Using TMT6 outside of MediaBrowser works fine. I updated the MB Server today and MB Classic is also up to date. Any insight? Thanks, Lon
im85288 1493 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Although not specifcally answering your query. I too use a Synology NAS for movie/tv storage and expose everything using the NFS protocol. You can map your UNC paths to a NFS path in the path substitutions section. I have personally had no problems at all with this setup so it may help you.
4hatleys 1 Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 I Too am having the same problem. I have mapped my Synology to a nfs path. WMC on the Win 7 works good but as soon as I use the XBOX extender I start to have problems. Movies will play but not until after it throws a (can't find file. Try using UNC path) Error. But does end up playing then the error goes away. Tried using substitution file path. And it doesn't see the movie folders. Also, When the movies are playing they look like their playing at a pretty low quality. All this just started with MB3. Last couple years this has worked great. Any Thoughts?

Search out here for extender and permissions. Your extender uses a hidden Windows user and that user doesn't have permissions to your media. You need to give Everyone access for it to work with extenders.
Lonald 10 Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 OK, problem solved through Path Substitution... but the opposite of what I think was being suggested. Took a while on nomenclature - I thought of "Server" as the Synology device, as this is a Linux File Server (from what I can tell). Figured out that this was to be the MBServer and noted the Path Substitution tab and found that the mapped Y:\ drive was the only path substitution (recall that the Blu-Ray mapped drive worked). I turned OFF the Path Substitution for the Y:\ and instant gratification! Thanks y'all for pointing me in the correct direction! As always, it was just a simple setting change... Lon
