deadscope 0 Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 i wanted to know the best settings for transcoding like ultra settings? my server can handle it
Luke 42079 Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Hi, you could try lowering the server crf setting in transcoding settings.
Luke 42079 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 It will increase quality if that's what you're asking.
deadscope 0 Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 i mean will it increase so it doesnt buffer?
Luke 42079 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Can you please describe what you're trying to accomplish? Are you having an issue on the default settings?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Depends on the issue of why your system is buffering/pausing/stuttering. Is the system powerful enough to transcodes said media? Probably need a ffmpeg log also.
deadscope 0 Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 yes so basically im trying to get it to were my remote videos dont buff max setting if you will because when i try to load outside my local network it buffers transcoding
deadscope 0 Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 the server is built like gaming pc so it can handle a lot
Luke 42079 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 yes so basically im trying to get it to were my remote videos dont buff max setting if you will because when i try to load outside my local network it buffers transcoding This is usually a sign that the bitrate is too high. Try lowering the in-app quality setting on the device you're playing from.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 How many remote streams? What is your upload speed? Might have to set a "Internet streaming bitrate limit (Mbps)", globally or per user.
Luke 42079 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Before you even get to that, i would just start by testing what i suggested directly from the app you're playing from.
deadscope 0 Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 (edited) what i get isMedia bitrate exceeds limit. Edited March 6, 2020 by deadscope
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 what i get isMedia bitrate exceeds limit. What did you set the app/quality to? What is your upload speed?
deadscope 0 Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 well its my friends phone and its on auto there is nothing i can do on my side? 30mbs
Luke 42079 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 what i get isMedia bitrate exceeds limit. Right well that's by design. You said you were seeing buffering, so I asked you try lowering the in-app quality setting so that the server will transcode it to a lower bitrate. This can help it play more smoothly.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 (edited) well its my friends phone and its on auto there is nothing i can do on my side? 30mbs Sounds like Auto is selection a bitrate that is still to high for the device. You would need to know what it was transcode at and set a lower rate then that. Cellular network data fluctuates a lot. Edited March 6, 2020 by Happy2Play
deadscope 0 Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 i see so there is no global fix the person thats actually playing the video might have to adjust stuff?
Luke 42079 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 i see so there is no global fix the person thats actually playing the video might have to adjust stuff? You can set limits at the server level, yes, but for testing right now it's probably quicker to just do it in the app you're playing from.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 That is the tricky part as a global fix will limit all the connections speeds. So cellular and someone's home connection/wifi would have the same limits. So adjusting the device can be the safest bet. But if you know they will never have a higher connection speed you can give them a set bitrate in their user settings on the server.
deadscope 0 Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 i understand that but its usually not just one person . what should i set the birrate to and where do i find it to set the bit rate to?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 i understand that but its usually not just one person . what should i set the birrate to and where do i find it to set the bit rate to? You would have to look at the ffmpeg in the server logs folder to see what bitrate they were having issues with. There is no one size fits all. So you have to calculate how many remote connections you may have at one time. But Auto on the client/app may still be requesting more then it can handle depending on what you set a limit to. You have a global option in Dashboard-Network "Internet streaming bitrate limit" all streams limited to whatever you set. And/or a per user setting in every user Dashboard-Users-each user
