Screen grabber (for movie libraries) improvements

Could there be some kind of “fix” or an option to use screen grabber feature for actual thumbs/backdrop from a movie rather than poster (primary image) in movie libraries?

I can understand that screen grab is used as primary image for home/mixed/tv shows/music video types of library but for movies it doesn’t make much sense...

In a movie library you're only ever going to see it if a poster couldn't be downloaded from the internet.

For episodes this works fine but for movies it simply doesn't look good. Screen grabs are alway landscape anyway. So if I rename screen grab poster.jpg to fanart.jpg the image is still visible as primary image only not squeezed and with correct aspect ratio:

I was just trying out screen grabber for the first time. I expected that this would add backdrops for movies where I do not have backdrops, but it doesn't. Wouldn't that feature make most sense?

Screen grabber is used to create posters for media items when there are no local or internet (meta-data) based ones available.  Think of it as a last resort for getting you a poster for the media like movies or shows.

For your home movies and photos it of course is really the only way to generate these easily without you doing it outside of Emby.

I understand and am aware. But shouldn't this also being used for what I said? For movies where no backdrops are available on all online metadata fetchers?

A random still for a backdrop? I don't think that would be a good idea.

I know MCM does exactly that when there are no provider backdrops it extract x number of image from said video.

Automatically extract frames from video files if artwork is not found

I mean, you can enable or disable that scraper for each libary, so I'd personally would like to see that option.

Emby could technically save this screen grab as fanart/backdrop instead of Primary poster to get the same effect.

Hi, can you show us a screenshot example of what you're looking to do? Thanks.
