kaledi 41 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 The conversion feature is really useful to create a different encode of media for different purposes. The use case I have is for TV shows and convert a small number of unwatched episodes that I then sync with an offline device. When I watch an episode in emby, the server will then convert the next show forward (and store it alongside the original). What I can't seem to do is set it up so that it deletes the watched converted copy. I don't want to delete the original media file just the daughter file. Is there a way to do this. Please note, I know, and I do use the sync feature with my android devices and this correctly manages my media for offline. The use case I describe above is for a different scenario.
kaledi 41 Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 Long and short of it, I'm syncing to an external HDD and taking this on the road. I'm not using Emby in this situation to view the media. I'll watch episodes at home as well via EMBY. What's important is that I want the external HDD to be up to date with the next 2 or 3 unwatched episodes and if I've watched an episode at home then this one will be deleted.
kaledi 41 Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 Just seen the folder sync plug in. This plug in might serve my purpose?
Luke 42085 Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 Does the server have delete priveliges on the synced folder?
kaledi 41 Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 Very good question and it would appear that it does not. As a test, I created a folder on my WD PR4100 (EMBY server is also installed here) from my Windows machine. I then go to Folder sync plug in and map the folder location - I've attempted to use both these conventions: \\servername\share\test or /nfs/share/test Curiously, when I then go sync content to this folder, nothing appears. I attempted an alternative by not creating a test folder from Windows but rather by just specifying a path from the plug in. Emby creates the folder and from memory this succeeded in syncing content. Looking at the security properties from Windows 10, it is clear that the permissions are different for this folder than others that contain media and indeed if Emby creates this folder, then I can't delete content from the folder from Windows - this would suggest that EMBY doesn't have permission either. Any suggestions for solution. What is the convention for folder path for the plug in?
kaledi 41 Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 I can't seem to get this to work at all now. I've even tried syncing to a share on Windows machine and made sure of full access to 'everyone' and 'guest'. I don't know if my playing around with PR4100 shares etc, but I see tonight that on the PR4100 there is a share called emby and this contains all the emby installation files cache folders etc. Is this normal, or have I have inadvertently exposed the emby folder somehow e.g. by making it public.
kaledi 41 Posted March 4, 2020 Author Posted March 4, 2020 Hello, I've posted elsewhere with problems creating a folder sync of a constrained number of unwatched media and then the watched media is not deleted. This is on a western digital nas. I've also now downloaded and installed the latest stable version for Windows and set up a similar job and the same behaviour is apparent. I then noticed in the change log for the beta installation that sync delete is mentioned. Am I to understand thta this is simply not working currently and therefore there is no point me troubleshooting? Thanks
Luke 42085 Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 I've merged your topics that are discussing the same issue. Thanks.
kaledi 41 Posted March 4, 2020 Author Posted March 4, 2020 So tried the beta version of Windows Emby server and this version appears to work as advertised. Will this also resolve for the PR4100 when the stable version is released?
