Pincoat 0 Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 I have a bunch of files that will no longer show up in Emby. Seems to be a mix of AVI and MP4s. I have been converting them to MKV and then Emby finds them again. It is a tedious process though, is there something within Emby server I should be doing?
Luke 42079 Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Hi, they are still supported. Can you please go over examples of your file and folder naming and organization? Thanks.
Pincoat 0 Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 When I convert the files nothing is changing other than the file type. Their location and name is the same. (other than *.avi now being *.mkv)
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Had you done a library scan? I replace avi files all the time without issue. May need a server log to see if the new file failing in some way.
Pincoat 0 Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 I have done the library scan. Emby only rediscovers the files AFTER they have been converted to MKV. I guess they may have all been corrupted somehow and the conversion is fixing them... maybe?
Luke 42079 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 If we can go over some specific examples then we can provide more insight. Thanks.
Pincoat 0 Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 Just converted season 7 of Holmes on Homes. File name S7E14 - Lien On Me.avi became S7E14 - Lien On Me.mkv both files are in the same folder. Before converting none of the video files would appear. The show was an option in emby, but none of the episodes were there. Now they are.
crusher11 1101 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 You're going to need to post the media info for both files I suspect.
Luke 42079 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 That and let's take a look at the file and folder organization and naming. Thanks.
Pincoat 0 Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 the AVI files do not appear in Emby but the MKV files do.
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 (edited) For multi-version - the wiki recommends always using the full show title in the name and it must match the directory name :- Multi-Version Episode Multi-Version Episodes are best using the following format: show name - S01E01 - Display Name 1.ext show name - S01E01 - Display Name 2.ext ie \Holmes on Homes\Season 7\Holmes on Homes - S7E01 - Hit the Deck.avi \Holmes on Homes\Season 7\Holmes on Homes - S7E01 - Hit the Deck.mkv Both will then show up and you can select which one you want to play with a drop down. anything after the final '-' can be different - so you could call it '..- Hit the Deck AVI.avi' if you wanted to. https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159110-tv-naming Edited March 3, 2020 by rbjtech
Luke 42079 Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 That's right, they're probably being detected as multi-version. Did you click into the detail screen for one of these?
Pincoat 0 Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 The AVI files were the ONLY files in the folder before I converted them into the MKV. There were not multiple files in the folder before. After I convert them to MKV I usually delete the source files (in this case the AVI) but left them in for the screenshot to show that the MKV files which do now appear in Emby have the EXACT same name as the AVI files which do not appear in Emby and the MKV files are in the EXACT same folder as the AVI files. I was showing that the name and folder location were a non-issue. I feel like everyone is trying to figure out how I am stupid rather than think what I have described is actually what is going on.
Pincoat 0 Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 And yes I have scanned all libraries several times before resorting to this.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 And if you enter one of those episode is there a multi-version drop down to select either version?
Pincoat 0 Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 I'm sorry I really don't see how that relates. Did you guys look at the photos? There is not a drop down menu either before or after I delete the original AVI files that Emby can't seem to see anymore. As I said before, I delete the original AVI files (that used to work) after they are copied into MKV files, the reason is to save space. The problem is that the AVI files do not show up anymore on Emby. I copy them into new MKV files, delete the original AVI files, and boom those show up. Is there a phone number I could call, I really don't think I'm explaining this well enough.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 In the end something appears broken, probably in the database specific to your system. I would create a new library with a new folder and move the problem media into that new folder and see if you get the same results.
ebr 16184 Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 Are you sure you've looked on the detail page for one of those episodes with two files? So far, you did not show us a screen shot of that...
Luke 42079 Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 @@Pincoat can you show a screenshot of the detail screen of one of these episodes? Thanks.
