mobamobamoba 5 Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Is there a way for the server to consolidate restarts? I can't tell you how often I have to restart the server due to a plugin update on to then get another notification the second Emby restarts that I need to restart it again because it just noticed some other plugin needed updating. It seems the server should update everything that needs updating upon a restart rather than do it one after the other after the other. Personally, barring critical patches, I'd prefer the Windows "Patch Tuesday" model where there's a monthly plugin update check and restart and nothing beyond that, but I don't see where I can schedule plugin updates monthly. Did that option vanish at some point? Thanks.
ebr 16185 Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Hi. That has to do with the timing of the check for plugin updates task. It doesn't run that often so new updates may have happened since the last time it ran. So, what we would have to do is run that task every time you request a restart (and also do the updates before the restart). That may or may not be a good idea but something to consider. Thanks.
mobamobamoba 5 Posted February 26, 2020 Author Posted February 26, 2020 I don't see the plugin update in scheduled tasks anymore (I know it used to be there in some earlier server version). Do you know where it's located now? Thanks.
Luke 42081 Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 It's not configurable but that's not the issue. It's just the timing of when plugin updates came out. Also sometimes a plugin update requires a minimum version of the server, so you don't get the plugin update until after the server has updated.
mobamobamoba 5 Posted February 26, 2020 Author Posted February 26, 2020 Okay but the server hasn't changed versions in a while and I've had this happen multiple times over the past few weeks. The issue really is that I have notifications enabled when the server requires a restart and, as I'm sure you can imagine, receiving multiple nag notifications is pretty irritating. I've disabled the notifications but that also seems to defeat the purpose since now I won't know that something in the server requires a restart. Perhaps you could break out "Server requires restart due to plugin update" from "Server requires restart due to server update" notifications; that way, in my case, I could still be notified when Emby updates itself and requires a restart but otherwise not be bothered by the restarts required by the plugin updates.
Luke 42081 Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Yea there have been lots of plugin updates, and they were not all at the same time. I'm pretty sure that's the reason why. Since server updates are infrequent, I would just disable the option to have the server automatically restart itself. Then if you need to restart, your server dashboard will tell you when you open it and you can decide when to do that.
mobamobamoba 5 Posted February 26, 2020 Author Posted February 26, 2020 It was the restart notifications that were driving me nuts and those are what I disabled. The server auto restart has never worked in my case (even though I have only 3 users all of whom are in the same time zone and thus asleep at the same times, i.e. there are long stretches where the server isn't in use) which is why I set up the notifications to begin with.
