AviatorBimmer 28 Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 I have a few family members who always seem to just close an app without first stopping a movie, and that client will show up "stalled" for hours on the Active Devices pages. How long does it take for Emby to realize that client has closed before it clears it from the Active Devices on the dashboard? It would be great if that interval was user configurable for us OCD folks. lol
Happy2Play 9783 Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Don't think there is a straightforward answer. I believe it is do to the servers ability to "cast/play on" a client/app that has been opened. Example if I launch and close my Roku app the server can now cast to that device and will remain in the Active devices until the server is restarted.
Luke 42083 Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Can you please go over an example? thanks.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Can you please go over an example? thanks. Pretty sure this goes back to this topic. Roku is no longer in Emby client.
AviatorBimmer 28 Posted February 24, 2020 Author Posted February 24, 2020 Can you please go over an example? thanks. About 4 hours ago, this family member closed the app on her cell phone after she was using it to Chromecast to her TV. She swiped closed the app without hitting the stop button. The movie was playing at the time. The movie is "stuck" there and the play counter has not advanced in 4 hours. @@Luke I asked her if the movie was paused and she said she closed the app 4 hours ago. Luke 42083 Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Ok that one is a little different. So that meant the chromecast receiver was still playing?

So that meant the chromecast receiver was still playing? @@Luke She said she left the house after she closed the app and shut the TV off. I doubt the Chromecast was still playing, if she left the house and was definitely out of range.
Luke 42083 Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Well she left the house, but I imagine the Chromecast stayed where it was and may have still been playing.

I think her TV might have built-in Chromecast. I'll double check with her tomorrow.
Pog22 52 Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 I've had Chromecasts showing as paused and holding transcodes in memory for hours.
Luke 42083 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 That would mean that the Chromecast is still left going rather than being shut down.
Pog22 52 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 That would mean that the Chromecast is still left going rather than being shut down. How do you shut down a Chromecast? It's the way they operate causes this issue and it's a known issue, others on here have said the same.
Luke 42083 Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 When you disconnect from inside the emby app it will ask you if you also want to shutdown the app on Chromecast.
Pog22 52 Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 When you disconnect from inside the emby app it will ask you if you also want to shutdown the app on Chromecast. Users don't do this, they just swipe away the Chromecast notification, that is, if their phone is still connected to Chromecast
