Download Ready Version - Files

Hello,

I know that you can "convert" media file into more friendly formats via emby.

The feature to download media files for offline viewing (In case you have no access to wifi or cell data) which happens from time to time is a great feature of emby.

When I want to download a file it asks me to choose the type of quality and then it will download.

Is there a way to encode a file ahead of time as that will be designated the file to be used for downloading ?

If so, where is the file saved ? and how is it named ?

Basically, can I encode a file in handbrake and drop it somewhere for emby to recognize as the file to use for downloading to a cell phone.

Thank You

hi @@centuryx476, yes just use the convert feature and configure it to keep both the old and new files. Then when you use the download feature it will select the most appropriate version based on your download settings.

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

Thank you,

So, The converted file is sitting in the folder it has a "-mobile" appended to the name which is what I expected.

So now the episode on the android app gives me a drop down for the version of the episode.

So when I click download it still gives me the option to choose the quality of the download.

This is what I am referring too. Is it at all possible to force emby to just download the "-mobile" version of the file and skip asking me for what quality download I want ?

I might be asking too much and that this is outside the ability of the server.

Thank You

No, not at this time, although it's not a bad idea.

Right, How can I submit this as an idea ?

Cause then you can make custom versions of your movies/tv shows that can just be for offline viewing. And you want to be able to download them quickly and be on your way out of the house.

I mean lets think about it.

Very bad pseudocode below...

if (folder contains file == "%mobile%")

{

    download file

}

else

{

  Present Quality selection menu for download

}
