Kodi_Newcomer 27 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Hello Com, my old system is broken, so i have bought new hardware. After this i have installed all new, Windows, Emby and so on. I have set the Network share to all the media folders. With the other pc's on the network i can go to the folders and can play the files. So In Emby i add the first folder to the library "E:\\Filme 12"and optional Network Share "\\192.168.178.10\Filme 1" So when i look at the overview on the Emby Server, i can see, that all the clients only stream the files no direct play. So something is wrong with the network share i think. In the past i have at all clients direct play and no transcoding. So did you have some ideas what can go wrong here ? Greet's
Luke 42081 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 This means those client machines are unable to access that network path.
Kodi_Newcomer 27 Posted February 15, 2020 Author Posted February 15, 2020 Hm can i see what exact problem it its ? When i type this network path in the explorer "\\192.168.178.10\Filme 1" then it opens up the folder and all works fine. At the first time i have to enter the user and pw from the Windows Server, to access the share. But i think, when i connect through emby, that emby is given the access rights to the emby client, is this so ? But i dont know what im doing wrong, all the time in the past, it has work fine for me. For the Windows User, i have set a password. But this is what im done the last years to, and i have no problem. So i don't know whats wrong here. Can you look at the log, can you see there the reason why i cant play directly ?
ebr 16185 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Hi. I believe you have defined your library locations at the wrong level. You don't want to point to individual movie folders. You want to point to a parent that holds all of those folders. So, move all those "filme" folders under a single "Filmes" folder and then point your library to that.
Kodi_Newcomer 27 Posted February 15, 2020 Author Posted February 15, 2020 (edited) Hi. I believe you have defined your library locations at the wrong level. So, move all those "filme" folders under a single "Filmes" folder and then point your library to that. This is exactly what i'f done. Filme 1 is the root folder on my hdd. So i have 4 hdds, to better overview i have for each hdd one Filme folder, so Filme 1, Filme 2 and so on. In this folder for example "Filme 1" there are all the Movies on this hdd. So i think thats exactly what you mean. I have also tried \\Medienserver\Filme 1 instead of \\192.168.178.100\Filme 1. I have also deactived the password reqeust for home network, so i can directly open all the shared folders without user and password. All this will not help, to become the direct play back. Im out of ideas now. I've never had that before. Edited February 15, 2020 by Kodi_Newcomer
ebr 16185 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Okay, sorry, based on the names it looked like you were pointing to individual movies. We'll need to see more specifics (logs) to help further. Thanks.

pünktchen 1409 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Where do you think it should direct play from your shares? I mean what app and what device?
Luke 42081 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Yea it looks like you're playing from the web app. The web browser can't access the files directly.

Kodi_Newcomer 27 Posted February 15, 2020 Author Posted February 15, 2020 I have test it with an Linux Server in the past. There i have test playing, from some devices, chrome browser, handy and so one. And all the time, there stand direct play in the emby overview.
pünktchen 1409 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Direct play in the dashboard doesn't mean it's playing from your shares. It just means there's no ffmpeg process involved. Emby is still streaming the video via http to the clients instead of the clients directly accessing your filesystem.
Kodi_Newcomer 27 Posted February 15, 2020 Author Posted February 15, 2020 omg, yes, with the clients it works perfect. I was sure that I would have seen it on the browser and on the cell phone that it plays directly there. But in the case I can end my troubleshooting with the clients. Thanks So i think now, all is fine. But one quest. When i access the Server from my Windows PC, i must enter user and password to enter the share folders. On the Clients i must do this, is emby granted access to this network shares ?
Luke 42081 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 On the Clients i must do this, is emby granted access to this network shares ? Emby Theater for windows will inherit whatever permissions the windows pc has.
pünktchen 1409 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 (edited) Neither the Emby server itself, nor the Emby clients can access password protected shares. But that doesn't matter, because the Emby clients use the http stream, not the filesystem. Edit: in case of Emby server, it's the user profile that runs the server software that has access rights. Not the server software itself. Emby has no input field for network credentials. Edited February 15, 2020 by pünktchen
