I changed metadata path and now Emby cannot find my metadata

Hi all,

 

I check for topic about making a backup or should i say "A Perfect Backup". After reading some topic and wiki, the process was to install the plugin "Server Configuration Backup", when done, it ask to reboot the Emby server, when reboot my heart stop !!!

After installing the plugin and reboot the server, the server show me this ans some image was widescreen:

 

 

Ok,..., what the heck just happen !!!!

Sure i unsinstall the plugin, maybe it was about to explode !!!!

 

How can i come back to the original, when EVERYTHING was ok, before willing to make a backup in case those thing happen !!!

 

I've just pass around 40 hours to set everything perfectly and i don't want to redo all again.

 

Next time i'll do a manual backup and never use those non-working plugin !!!

Oh and btw, if someone find the good ans working manual backup tutorial, leave me the link i'll appreciated !!!

Hi, those are two different libraries. One is TV, the other is Movies. That makes it hard to compare.

 

Did you do a restore, and if so, what did you restore?

Hi,

yes it is 2 different library, because i could'n know emby will be screw. TV show is OK, movie its not. On my server 30% are ok, the rest are not.

I didn't do a restore because the plugin screw it all BEFORE being able to backup anything !

 

Keep in mind that the picture are AFTER the plugin install, it also show :

 

- Pic 1 : What is suppose to be.

- Pic 2 : What it is now for 70% of the server.

 

It look like the Main image has disappear.

Just installing the plugin and rebooting does absolutely nothing.  We need a lot more information.  What have you done step by step.

 

The plugin is only for configurations not metadata and images.  I would assume you do not save metadata and images.

I install the plugin, reboot and TADA !!!! After that , i take screenshot and make this post.

 

I want to save everything, because i'm french and a lot of title show the wrong title, so i correct all of them ( those who need to ).

 

What i want to do, its a complete backup, so if the PC explode, i can make a perfect restore from another hard drive to the new one like if nothing ever happen to the server.

Ok, the frst one, it was in a procedure to backup de metadata because the plugin don't do it, so they tell to specify a directory for the backup.

After the server screw up, i return in the menu and remove the setting for metadata to its default.

The server did not screw up you changed the \metadata path and it no longer knows where your previous central metadata is located since you do not save metadata with media.

 

Basically you need the entire Emby-Server\Programdata folder.  But you can run into path issues in some cases if not restoring on the same system or a system using the same path for areas that apply.

Ok Good ! All the change have been made during a 5 minute max and i didn't add new media. So to return it to its original state, i've uncheck to save to the D drive and normally its suppose to return to the original state, but it doesn't.

So what i need to do now ? Because i don't understand why all series are ok and movie are not !

When the server will be OK, wich file do i need to save for a perfect restoration ? ( i'll do it manually )

Can you see the good path in the log file at february 10 ? Maybe it will help to bring it back to its original state, and after that create a backup as I would have liked to do ?

 

I wish to be able to restore it during the week end.

We need to update the help text underneath the option but when you change the metadata path setting you should ideally move the existing files to the new location.

I try to find something and here what i find.

 

All series are OK, they have Main Poster (Principal), Logo and banner, but all movies have Logo and banner only and sometime nothing at all, all poster option are gone !! To solve the problem, i need to add a new image one after another and insert them in the Main Poster zone,..., that should be around 100 hours to solve the problem, but reinstalling and start over is pretty faster !!!

 

All data is ok and unchange, only the Main poster disappear, what cause this ???? And how can i add back the "main poster zone" so Emby can reload all the poster ???

Good news !! 

 

If i select one movie at a time, select "refresh metadata", then, "update metadata only" and "replace image" ( because there none ), it work !!!

 

But, we still have some trouble here:

 

1- Does it have a way to make a multiple selection, because otherway it will be faster to uninstall and reinstall.

 

2- Can we have the option to only replace image ? The reason is we have 2 choice when we refresh metadata, refresh or replace, and then you can replace the picture if you want (optional), it would be great to have "refresh picture only" or "Don't modify text". Because actually the text its now all in english and my server its all french. Normally its download in french, but sometime not !

 

I know i'll need to change a lot of picture, that not to bad, but if i need to change a lot of text, it you'll be a pain !!! I know for text its a french problem, because we have from France and Québec (French-Canadian), but here a exemple:

 

Original title: Despicable Me

French-Canadian: Détestable Moi ( Despicable Me )

French-France: Moi, moche et méchant ( Me, ugly and mean )

 

So like you can see, they still work to do. If someone ask me if i saw the movie of star wars - La Menace Fantôme (The phantom menace), i just need to convert it in my head in english and i know what the title is, but if the french title is kind of (The ghost with hostile intention), it not the same...lol

 

Anyway, you can imagine the work i need to do to have it with the good title, and i know that Emby its very good for french-canadian metadata title, and for all the poster before years 2000, after that we have work to do and i'm ok with it. But i just finished and lose everything, so i try to recover at best.

Yes there is the multi-select tool, or you could also do it at the library level.

It's possible for the future, but right now your closest option is to select search for missing metadata.

Ok, well, i have no choice.

 

One more thing, when my server will be perfect V2.0, what will be the procedure for a perfect backup, that mean all picture, text, i modify will be backup so my restore will be like it was !

 

Because, the help i find in the forum and in the wiki, lead me to this and i don't trust that plugin, for now !

 

A step by step will be gladly appreciated and i'll made a tutorial with image for others people when complete on this forum!

The plugin in only for CONFIGURATION it has absolutely nothing to do with metadata and images.  Since you do not save metadata and images with media, you have to have your own backup system.  This means you have to backup your Emby-server\programdata folder because you have to have the databases that correspond with the \metadata\library\xx\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx folder ids.

 

So one step backup Emby-server\programdata folder

Sorry, i was out of town for 2 days and come back this afternoon.

 

I dunno what happen, but everything seem to be back like it was a week ago !!!

Last time we chat, its was about multi-selecting movie to update database, i didn't do it and now it seem to be all back like it was before this topic was open, pretty weird !!!

Maybe a glitch, i dunno, now i'll check if everything its okay, i'll need a day or two.

 

For the the manual backup, i should be able to do it soon if everything is ok.
