BIF files... ?? do I need them?

Hello;

 

   wondering if the thousands of *.bif files I now see in my content folder structure. I must have checked a box in each of my Librarys' that started those to be created.

 

   The best info I can find out is that the ROKU player benefits from them. They seem to be used to display images during scrubbing? FF/RW through a video?

 

   None of my clients are ROKU, just Android, iOS, and web browser. If I really don't benefit from them which selection controls weather they are created?
