Q-Droid 989 Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 I will start by admitting this is entirely my fault. I also know the placement of the "Delete" option has been debated and discussed to death ...but... muscle memory took over and I deleted an entire series after watching the default (next) episode presented on the series screen. I was used to only seeing the trash can at the episode level in previous versions for ATV so when the episode ended I went over to trash and pop-pop, series gone. AAHHHGG!!! Rant over.
ebr 16184 Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Hi. We're sorry to hear this. We'll work on making the message even more obvious. Thanks.
Q-Droid 989 Posted February 8, 2020 Author Posted February 8, 2020 The message itself would not have made a difference for me this time, the prompt is clear in what will be deleted. Like I said it was muscle memory and I didn't even pause to read the prompt. Entirely my doing and the lesson learned that I should pay attention.
vaise 340 Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 I have also been burnt here, plus the wife too - but we have deletion turned off for all except recorded TV (as you would with a PVR solution). I posted in other discussions on this. Ideally, a message that pops up and says something like this : 'Warning, This is a Series level deletion you are requesting - you will be deleting XX episodes if you press delete at this level' And then an extra 'Are you really really sure' message also that does not happen at the episode delete. You could even modify the message to state 'there are also unwatched episodes in this deletion request. I think the delete on episode and the delete on the top level need some major differences.
Q-Droid 989 Posted February 12, 2020 Author Posted February 12, 2020 The erased content was in my DVR library and not permanent. If I had my way, and the team was open to suggestions, I would place Series level and Season level deletion in the 3-dot menu. The current location is too much like the episode level delete. It should take a little more effort for higher level delete, akin to the long press in the library view. Regarding the messages and confirmation, like I said before I didn't even read them, assuming I was in the episode.
vaise 340 Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 The three dot would be fine, but I don’t think that is uniform across all clients, ie the roku’s we have in my house everywhere except the lounge does not have the three dots.
Dan_Austin 71 Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Or revisit the much maligned trashbin concept and make it possible to undelete for a period of time after deletion (configurable of course) Stories like this had me change my view process to only delete after all episodes in a seasons/series have been watched. That leads to less than optimal storage utilization, but better than the other possible situations.
