Chiefmas 40 Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Hello, I'm new to the Emby community. I've recently been less happy with Plexs' recently and am looking around at options. Emby seems to be the highest on the list. I would like to explore running Emby, and wondered if anyone had run it side-by-side on the same box as Plex? I'd only be setting up as a small scale test, I wouldn't import my full libraries and such, as I don't think I have the free disk space. While I could stand up a VM, one of the capabilities that is most important to me is on the fly hardware transcode functionality, so running it on my Plex box would be best, but I'd like to not take down Plex to do so. Oh...the host OS (for now) would be Win10. If I decide to move to Emby, I'd very plan to reinstall to a Linux distro, probably Ubuntu Server unless I need a gui for some reason. Thanks!
Luke 42086 Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Hi, welcome. Yes it should be fine, lots of users here do that.
WilhelmStroker 102 Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Running both on a windows 10 Intel nuc without issues. Both apps pointing to the same nas. You'll be fine.
thrillcat 14 Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 I’m in the same situation. Became less that thrilled with the PLEX direction, and I have installed Emby on the same machine. Emby is pretty good. Their support team is really responsive, especially compared to the silence you get from PLEX. I’ve pretty much locked in on Emby. Still hoping they’ll listen to a few of my requests. I haven’t uninstalled PLEX, but I haven’t used it, either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
